In review….Grade 12 students  Began this process last year…  Have reviewed their current situation in relation to diploma requirements and post secondary plans  Have been encouraged to update their Individual Pathway plan in Career Cruising  Should be aware of the timelines regarding the year ahead….  Will receive specific instructions regarding the application processes to Ontario colleges and universities in November

  6. Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts & Technologies  Hundreds of programs provide combination of academic and practical/ technical skills training for a specific occupations  1 year certificate programs;  2 and 3 year diploma programs;  4 year degree programs.  Costs $$$

Researching College Programs  Fee …$95 for the application  5 choices of colleges/ programs  (3 at any one college)  Application deadline is February 1 for equal consideration  Application cycle includes September , January/ February, and May of the following year  after equal consideration deadline? Can still apply if space available

Ontario College…Next Steps  Ontario College Fair October 23 rd 5-9 pm or October 24 th 9-2 pm EnerCare Centre www.ocif.ca  College Panel Presentation (Seneca, Humber, George Brown, Centennial, Georgian, Sheridan) November 7 th – 2 nd period  College Application workshop November 15 th - potential applicants presented with Next Steps – 4 th period

College Applicant workshop  Semester 1 and 2 midterms and finals submitted to college system  Entire High school transcript seen by colleges  Applicants create their own account.  Can apply NOW… we suggest after their mid-terms and no later than February 1 st … for equal consideration and no later than before exams  Offers of Admissions begin after February 1

  14. Ontario University Admission Guidelines  High school diploma required.  Six Grade 12 ‘U’ or ‘U/C’ courses  most programs have 75% + admission averages  prerequisite courses …  Refer to university web sites, handbooks and eINFO  Universities may consider Gr. 11 and 12 (‘U’ and ‘U/C’) courses for admission &/or prerequisites  ‘U’ or ‘U/C’ coop credits do not count in admission averages

  15.  Fall Campus days  Applicant workshop scheduled  November 8 th or 9 th during 4 th period  Applicant receives their PIN’s available from Guidance to access their application account at that time Ontario University Applicant Tutorial  Application fee $150 for 3 Ontario choices  $50 for each additional choice  Submit application no later than January 16, 2019 … We suggest before the December break  $$$$$$$$ for tuition, books, residence

  16.  Current timetable and all previously completed grade 11 and 12 courses presented at time of application  Offers of Admission are conditional …and can be issued by some universities even before 1 st semester finals are presented to them…  Semester 1 finals submitted in February  Semester 2 midterms presented  Most offers will be presented after semester 2 midterms

What Next…  College and University visits at King during the day and evening Fairs around around York Region St. Maximillian Kolbe CHS October 25 6:30 p.m. Bayview SS November 1 7 p.m. Huron Heights SS November 9 6 p.m. Richmond Hill HS November 22 7 p.m.  Application workshops scheduled in November  Attend Open Houses …(use upcoming PD days for individual tours)  Midterms…compare with averages needed  Students with an IEP meet with their monitor  1 st semester finals submitted in February  Complete Community Involvement Hours (40)
