READING ❖ Use of ReadyGen ELA Curriculum ❖ Reader’s Workshop Model • Teacher teaches targeted mini-lessons that meet common core standards • Student practice using text based answers through completion on an exit ticket • Students self-select “just right” books to read silently • Students practice skills from mini-lessons using their own book or teacher selected passage • Teacher facilitates 1:1 conferencing and small guided groups Homework Expectations: Read 20 minutes each evening at least 5 times a week. Complete any work from class as needed.

What is Title I / LAP Reading? ❖ Federal and/or State funded programs ❖ Who benefits? – students who are below standard on grade level assessments based on an All School Rank Order ❖ Assessment include: School-wide AIMSWEB (Reading), an individual oral reading assessment, CBA (Classroom Based Assessments) ❖ Flexible Leveled Reading Groups are formed and served outside of Core instruction ❖ Intentional accelerated instruction for 4-5 days a week, 30-40 minutes, frequent progress monitoring ❖ Goal is to get them working at benchmark and back in the classroom as soon as possible
WRITING ❖ Writer’s Workshop Model (Target Skills come from that day’s reading) • Teacher teaches targeted mini-lessons that meet state standards • Students practice writing in their journals • Teacher facilitates 1:1 conferencing and small guided groups • Students share their work with peers ❖ Writing Forms • Narratives (personal and fiction) • Opinion Writing • Informational Writing
Foundational Skills Spelling is mainly taught through word analysis using the following skills: ❖ Affixes (prefixes and suffixes) ❖ Greek and Latin Roots ❖ Shades of Meaning ❖ Word Endings (like -ing) ❖ Cognates (Spanish and French) ❖ Homographs/Homonyms ❖ Compound Words Students that need extra spelling practice will be assigned word lists to study at home. Study strategies will be shared with students.
