Birthday Celebrations In our classroom we will celebrate individuals by: • bringing in your favorite book to have read to the class. • choosing to donate the book to our classroom library, if you would like. • receiving a pencil and birthday sticker Please do not send outside treats, goodies, balloons, invites, etc…
Clark Snack Program Thanks to the Issaquah Schools Foundation we are hoping to offer support regarding a healthy breakfast snack and/or school day snack program. In order for us to determine the need and allocate resources we would like ALL of you to please complete the purple sheet on your child’s desk and turn into the envelope.
ABOUT MS. FLYNN This is my 11 th year teaching elementary school. I have taught 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd , 4 th , and 5 th grades. I previously taught in California and Seattle. I have my BA in Liberal Studies and a Minor in Spanish from CSU Chico. I have my MA in Education from UC Davis. Fun Fact!: I grew up in Issaquah and am a product of Issaquah School District elementary schools! I have a dog named Diva that lives up to her name .

HOMEWORK Reading/Math Logs Total of 30 minutes a night Reading at Home: It is helpful for children to see people important to them reading in order for them to see reading as important! Let your kids see you reading – anything counts… even magazines, cookbooks or newspapers Develop family reading time where everyone reads Read a chapter book together Ask questions and discuss books while reading. Have a “home library” with just right books that your students are interested in – Doesn't have to be physical books - some great access to books online as well (Can order through Scholastic Book Orders)

Want to be a Clark Reading Coach? Do you have 1 hour a week? Do you want to help support students with their reading? If yes, please become a Clark Reading Coach! Clark Reading Coaches will commit to one hour a week in the building to support kids in literacy development in 2-3 classrooms. You will be trained in specific teaching strategies to use with the kids in the developmental age range that you prefer. Complete a sign up sheet tonight to learn more!

BREAK SPACE I feel that it is important to provide space for students to take a quick break when they feel frustrated, overwhelmed, angry, or any other strong emotion/feeling I have “gel timers” and stress balls that they can use to help themselves calm down to a more pleasant feeling so that they are ready to learn!
