  1. 5 th Floor, Fleetbank House 2-6 Salisbury Square London EC4Y 8JX Solicitor Advocates with experience of Immigration law to undertake presenting at the First Tier Tribunal 29 November 2018 I am writing to highlight an opportunity to work with the Home Office in representing the Secretary of State in certain immigration and asylum appeals at the First Tier Tribunal, Taylor House. The work will involve the preparation and presentation of appeals, including application of immigration caselaw; Home Office policy and relevant guidance. For each case that you present, you will be supplied with the respondent’s bundle and (where the Home Office has it) the appellant’s bundle. You will have access to Home Office senior caseworkers (who are Senior Executive Officers) for queries arising during the hearing. You must seek Senior Executive Officer approval before withdrawing a decision, conceding an appeal or requesting the adjournment of a case. You will be instructed by e-mail and as far as possible you will receive documents electronically. However, as we are unable to scan appellant’s documents, you may have to collect these from Fleetbank House. The level of instruction will be subject to demand. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a government department and exercise knowledge of immigration law within an appeals context. Rates of Payment Payment for each court list presented will be £45 per hour, up to a maximum of five hours of preparation time and five hours of presenting time, so the total maximum payment is £450. Details of Payment

  2.  The £45 applies to each hour or part of an hour.  For the purposes of payment, court start time will always be 10am.  You are free to arrive at the court early and time spent preparing then can be part of the five hours chargeable preparation time. However, space to prepare is often limited and it is requested that only preparation which must be done at the court is done at the court. If you propose to arrive early, you are advised to check with the court when it opens.  If the court list continues after lunch, the lunch break forms part of the five chargeable presenting hours.  You will be required to present floats in the circumstances when a Presenting Officer would. Time spent on floats would form part of paid court time.  You will be required to complete a post-hearing minute for each case which you present, and to e-mail this to the Home Office after the hearing (after, on the first occasion, sending an e-mail to the designated e-mail address and having its receipt confirmed). For the purposes of charging, up to 30 minutes can be spent on this, and it can be charged either under preparation time or under presenting time. The invoice should make clear which it is charged under.  You should, at the end of each month, send us one invoice covering all the lists which you have presented that month. Essential Criteria  You should have a 2:1 degree or be able to demonstrate excellent experience in the field of Immigration law  Your personal and professional circumstances must not be such as to risk creating the appearance of bias  Good working knowledge and experience of Immigration Law Next steps for those interested are to send their CV and a statement (maximum of 400 words) of their immigration law experience and why they are interested in engaging in this activity to (Susan.Gibson@homeoffice.gov.uk) along with expected availability. Full details, support points and guidance will be provided to suitable applicants ahead of any instructions but any questions can be directed to me via email. Yours sincerely Sue Gibson
