  12. Facilitation Skills Training - February We hosted Cultivate from Cloughjordan who delivered an excellent workshop on facilitation skills to 16 members of Clare PPN

  13. Media Training - March A workshop on media skills was organised in Doolin to assist those involved in providing a welcome and support to the people seeking asylum who were being placed in Lisdoonvarna in the direct provision centre. Those who attended this meeting have since formed a group and joined Clare PPN.

  14. GDPR training – April & May We delivered a series of well attended GDPR training sessions throughout the county for community groups in response to new EU regulations.

  15. Voter Registration Day - May Clare PPN also collaborated with Clare County Council and the Clare Garda Division to organise a voter registration day ‘The One Stop Shop’ in advance of the referendum on repealing the 8 th amendment and this was a success with approximately 200 people registering to vote on the day.

  16. Social Inclusion Workshop - June Clare Public Participation Network’s Social Inclusion College partnered with Community Work Ireland and the European Anti-Poverty Network to host a workshop on Social Inclusion in Ennis in advance of the national social inclusion forum and to nominate a delegate. Emma O’Brien from Clare Women’s Network to attend the Department’s conference in Croke Park on our behalf.

  17. Futureproof collaboration - June Clare PPN’s environmental college supported Future Proof Clare to host a very successful event in Glor theatre following our plenary meeting. Andy Gheorgiu (visiting from Food and Water Europe) discussed climate change and the proposals for a LPG terminal in the Shannon Estuary.

  18. Community participation in decision making with Chas Jewett- June Clare PPN also organised a workshop for community groups on rural engagement and participation on Saturday June 30 th and delivered by US based community organiser and tribal liaison Chas Jewett, who works for www.cureriver.org on their rural democracy project.

  19. Tech tools training - July Clare PPN collaborated with CLDC in July to offer a free workshop aimed at community group administrators & organisers to teach them how to use some of the great technological tools that are now available to help them run their groups. The main focus of this session was on using Mail Chimp to send out professional looking newsletters and on use of Survey Monkey and Doodle Poll for information gathering and for scheduling meetings.

  20. Meeting with MASI in Lisdoonvarna - August In August, MASI came to Lisdoonvarna to meet with asylum seekers who live there and their supporters. MASI are the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland and is an independent platform for asylum seekers to join together in unity and purpose. The collective seeks justice, freedom and dignity for all asylum seekers.

  21. Working Life in Ireland - September In September Clare PPN held ‘Working Life in Ireland’ in conjunction with Clare Local Development Company to assist asylum seekers who wish to enter the jobs market. Topics covered: Your rights and entitlements as a worker, assistance for entrepreneurs, educational opportunities and the new ‘right to work’ legislation .

  22. Network November Training A very successful collaboration with Clare Volunteer Centre and Clare Local Development Company delivering training on volunteer recruitment, accessing funding and understanding conflict in Ennis, Newmaket on Fergus, Killaloe, Kilrush, Ennistymon.

  23. Irish Government and voting training - November Clare PPN delivered training the some of County Clare’s Syrian community on Irish Government and voting rights in Sixmilebridge

  24. Understanding the SDGs - December Clare PPN, Development Perspectives and the Irish Environmental Network organised training on Using and Understanding the Sustainable Development Goals.

  25. Public Plenary meeting - December We held a very engaged public plenary meeting with many new faces and ideas highlighted for 2019

  26. Supporting the Traveller Community – all year Clare Public Participation Network, CLDC and the Midwest THU supported Pavee Point to conduct a peer-to-peer needs analysis in County Clare which was finished last month. We also had the opportunity to attend ITM’s annual conference and send a representative to Traveller Homes Matter Munster Regional Meeting.

  27. Working with LIT on a Special Purpose Award on Engagement with Local Government • This course will be a 10 credit, two module part time course that will cover all aspects of policy and practice needed for PPN representatives and for local government employees. • The course has been approved for piloting in 2019 • Clare PPN secretariat will be discussing the possibility of it being made available on a rolling basis to representatives – this is funding dependent.

  28. Other work • Participated in CLDC’s Market Towns community meetings in Scarriff and Ennistymon. • Participated in Clare County Council’s Creative Ireland Focus Group. • Participated in the selection process for Clare Co Co’s Public Arts commissions Gaining Ground and Legacy. • Continued support for HSE THU/Pavee Point Traveller needs analysis in Clare. • Clare PPN continued to participate in LIT’s Community Development Programmes Committee. • Press releases to local media on events and policy issues.. • Newsletters to all members • Participated in Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission and IDEC’s Public Sector Duty Training.

  29. Other work • Participated in GDPR training in UL • Attended two meetings with LIT’s Community Development Programmes Committee with a view to the delivery of a PPN training programme in Clare • Participated in Clare County Council’s Rural Development Forum. • Co-hosted guest speaker from Food and Water Europe • Presented on Clare PPN to delegation of Italian Local Authority staff. • Clare PPN facilitated 4 of its representatives from a variety of committees to participate in a research project on the Public Participation Networks being carried out by University College Cork

  30. Other work • Attended Marine Spatial Strategy meeting • Attended Project Ireland 2040 Funding Briefing – Southern regional Assembly • Attended Irish Traveller Movement AGM • Attended two meetings with Clare Lifelong Learning • Organised meeting between MASI and Lisdoonvarna asylum seekers • Sent submission to Traveller Accommodation Programme • Continued GDPR assistance to community groups
