Year 5 Meet the teacher morning
Behaviour system As much as possible we are positive in behaviour management and we encourage you to do the same. We avoid using statements like “can’t”, “don’t” or “no” and instead reward positive behaviour. Part of our reward system is using class dojo where children get rewarded on demonstrating the school values. Children also earn dojo points for handing in their reading record and homework.
Year 5 is a great opportunity to begin to build up independence for example: • Pack their own school bags • Remember their homework, reading records and PE kits • Line up on their own • Encourage them to communicate with teachers without needing your support (unless it is really important) • Walk home on their own (if appropriate)

Spelling shed Hopefully you are familiar with the spelling shed app that we have been using for the last year. Your children will be given spelling shed homework most weeks which they should complete. If there are problems with access they can complete this in school at homework club. They will have their log in and we can set homework based on the spellings we are focusing on and monitor their progress.
Homework club • Tuesday lunchtime 12:40-1:00/1:10 • 3 children per class will be invited each week by their class teacher. This could be different children each week. • The class teacher who is running the club that week will go and collect the children from the playground at 12:40 and take them back to their classroom/the playground. • This club is not a punishment for those children who are attending, just being offered as additional support so those children can hand their homework in when everyone else does.
