  2. What Does the MIS Office do? • We oversee all of the technology infrastructure and the various information and instructional systems that are used by the staff, students and parents everyday. • Some of the familiar hardware components are: the desktop computers, laptops, printers, whiteboards, projectors and document cameras. We have over 3000 computers in the district and 98% of our classrooms have an interactive whiteboard. • Some of the less familiar hardware components are: the Local and Wide Area networks (LANs and WANs), internet connection, network wiring, routers and switches, servers , security and the datacenter center at the HS. 2

  3. What else does the MIS Office do? We oversee the various Information Systems and Data Reporting Requirements from the SED and Federal Government Highlights: • Systems such as Infinite Campus (student information/parent portal) • K12 Alerts (automated communication system) • Email System • Finance Manager (in conjunction with the Business Office) • Transfinder (in conjunction with the Transportation office) • IEP Direct (in conjunction with the special ed office) • Winsnap School Lunch (in conjunction with the School Lunch Office) • Schoolwires – Website System (in conjunction with all schools, offices, departments and staff) • BOCES datawarehouse for reporting demographic, enrollment and assessment data • Security Cameras and HVAC (Coming soon – in conjunction with the Facilities office) • Destiny Library and Textbook Management System (in conjunction with the Library Media Specialists) • Atlas Curriculum Mapping (in conjunction with the office of Curriculum and Instruction) • Phone System 3

  4. Surely, there is more There sure is……… In conjunction with the Office of Curriculum and Instruction and the Office of Instructional Technology, the MIS office coordinates the installation and access to the various instructional software systems and programs. • Some examples include: • Achieve 3000 • Performance Plus (assessment creating, scoring and reporting system) • Scholastic Reading Inventory, System 44 and Read 180 (coming soon!) • Imagine Learning (Grades K-2) • Rosetta Stone • NovaNet (Credit Recovery Courses at Community School) • New online courses offered at the High School • BOCES Datawarehouse for teachers • Electronic Resources and databases • Teacher Webpages • Geometer Sketchpad • Encarta • Microsoft World Wide Telescope • and our pilot program at the HS (Microsoft Live@EDU – Office/Email in the cloud) 4

  5. Our Pilot Cloud Computing Project at the HS Microsoft Live@ EDU • Starting this past April, we have begun a cloud computing pilot project at the HS in conjunction with Microsoft using a online system called Live@EDU. • We selected the Live@EDU system, because of the integration and security features Microsoft provided to us. And the system is free! Students will have access to the following resources • Web-based Outlook (which includes Email, Calendar and Contacts) – this is a district issued and monitored email account. At this time, the email component will be limited to emailing internally to White Plains students and staff (outside email can not be sent or received by students). • Office in the cloud (includes web-based versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote) • Skydrive (25 GB of online storage of files, documents, music, pictures, etc.) • All of these resources will enhance student and teacher collaboration on classroom projects. • MicroSoft Live @EDU can be accessed 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week using any computer (and some smartphones) with internet access. • Staff will have access to the same resources. • We presented with Microsoft our pilot program at the Technology Expo in Briarcliff on April 29. • A group of our teachers are being trained by a Microsoft trainer on how to use Live@EDU in their classrooms on May 17. • In conjunction with this pilot, we are installing Wi-Fi hotspots in the High School this summer to prepare for increased potential of hand held devices, like iPhones, iPads, Smartphones, etc. to access Live@EDU. 5

  7. Wow - Can there be any more Funny you should ask – yes there is…… • Training on the various systems • Project Management • Backup of Data and files • Purchasing of Hardware • Report Writing and distribution • Helpdesk and technical support • And of course our endeavor towards Data Driven Decision Making for Instruction 7

  8. As part of the District’s Strategic Plan, the district has continued to develop a comprehensive data driven decision making model….. 8

  13. New proposed SED policies that will affect our Data Model in the near future • An SED Task Force has submitted a set of recommendations to the Board of Regents to change the APPR teacher and administrator evaluation process. • The basic proposed APPR change is for teachers and administrators to be evaluated on the following components: • 20% State Assessment Results (such as the 3-8 NYS exams and Regents exams) • 20% Local Assessment Results (TBD) • 60% Formal Evaluation Process (similar to what was currently being done) • The SED is requiring districts to submit teacher rosters and their final course grades for grades 6-12 this year, so they may begin to test formulas to implement the above criteria. • My Office will be working with the Office of Human Resources to plan for the data required for these evaluations. • This is a larger discussion for another meeting, but wanted to give you an update of what is probably going to be adopted by the Board of Regents in some fashion. 13

  14. On a lighter note – The MIS office also helped to install the new Digital Media Lab at Eastview Middle School – that is run by Jody Kennedy and is part of a new professional learning community at Eastview. Grand opening was in October – please visit if you have not seen it. 14

  15. One last thing…… None of this would be possible without the great tech team that is here at White Plains and the support from the central administration, the schools, teachers, students and the Board of Education. 15

  16. Thank You 16
