  12. ELA (English Language Arts)-Mrs. Moyer and Mrs. Hutchinson E LA is two periods- Writing and Literature, BUT one grade. Writing: Continued focus on technical writing, which equates to, “How to write academically.” This means modeling and practicing the art of technical writing in a more cohesive and formal manner. Pieces will correlate to our readings-- narrative, informational, argumentative, and a variety of other pieces. We will also work on Grammar and vocabulary skills. Literature: Readings will be from the Collections Anthology , Scholastic Scope Magazines, two core novels, and a variety of other readings. All of our readings will be available online. The activities will focus on guiding your children to becoming more involved in the text which in return promotes critical thinking.

  13. ELA-continued Q. What will my child be working on at home? -SSW -sustained silent writing-5 entries per month--we do weekly goal checks to be sure the children are keeping up. Each month the requirements progressively grow more challenging. All entries are due at the end of the month. -SSR - 20 minutes Mon.- Thurs. -IR-independent reading activities associated to their self-selected reading book. Grade level of course--we check titles and approve the reading books. -Test preparation *We are not going to candy coat it---ELA is challenging and it will require the children to work, but we strive to make it as manageable and as fun as we can.

Ok to note complete all :) ●

  16. Mathematics- Mrs. McCarry Classroom Structure: Day 1- Journal pages: Journal page days are meant for students to “discover” concepts. Day 2- Note-taking/Practice problems: Day two looks a lot more like a traditional math classroom where students take notes (mostly through ShowMe videos that we have created) on the concepts they spent “discovering” the prior day. **during both days we have built in time to work with small groups. We believe the most growth in math occurs during small group instruction. We use formative assessments (online hw, Schoology mini-quizzes, classkick app) to create concept specific small groups. We LOVE small group time!!
