  2. How the System Works 2

  3. Location  Property was purchased in the 1960s for a potential substation site.  Located adjacent to an existing 115kV transmission line.  Only requires short taps to connect transmission to station.  Centrally located to address the load relief issues in the Bethlehem – Delmar region.  Distribution lines can be built in close proximity to serve load.  Load – The amount of ‘electric power’ delivered (or required) at any specified point on a circuit to serve customers.  Minimal environmental impacts  No potential forest impacts  No potential wetland or stream impacts 3

  4. Project Drivers  The primary driver for the proposed Van Dyke substation is load relief within in the Bethlehem – Delmar region.  Improved reliability  Decrease the number of outages  Decrease the length of outages when they do occur  This project will resolve two existing issues;  Juniper Substation is currently exceeding its capacity.  Voorheesville Substation is currently the single source for supplying several distribution circuits which has become a reliability issue. 4

  5. Project Drivers  The new station will allow for the ultimate retirement of the Delmar and Juniper Substations.  The Delmar Station (est.1950’s) has a number of equipment related issues which needs to be addressed in the next few years.  The Juniper Station was built in the 1980’s to serve the residential housing developments along the Delmar Bypass.  The new Van Dyke Station will also add the capacity necessary to provide service to the new Vista Tech Park. One-third of the station load will serve the Vista Tech Park while the remaining two-thirds will serve the Bethlehem – Delmar region. 5

  6. Scope of Work 6

  7. Schedule - Key Milestones  Below Grade Construction – Summer 2015  Site preparation – site grading, grounding grid and stone placement  Storm water controls  Concrete Equipment Foundations  Perimeter Security Fencing  Above Grade Construction (Electrical Equipment) – Winter 2015  Transformers  Metal Clad (Switchgears)  Lightning Masts  Concrete Duct Line Construction – Summer 2016  Van Dyke Rd Underground Concrete Duct Line 7
