  2. TUHSD Science Requirements: ● Year 1: Physics in the Universe (introduced August 2018) ● Year 2: Living Earth (coming in August 2019) ● Year 3: Chemistry in the Earth System (coming in August 2020) These courses meet the Next Generation Science Standards for California Public Schools , adopted by the State Board of Education in 2013.

  3. A little bit about NGSS: ● Next Generation Science Standards are a redesigned approach for K-12 science education Emphasis on experimentation, exploration, and the ability to develop ● explanations for scientific phenomena ● De-emphasis on extensive lecturing and memorization For more information, visit NGSS website: nextgenscience.org

  4. Physics in the Universe Units of Study ● Big Bang to the Sun ● Formation of the Solar System and the Earth ● Earth Processes ● Energy Sourcing ● Using Energy ● Humans using Electromagnetic Waves

  5. Current activity in Ph.Un. : We are currently working in the first Ph.Un. unit, “Big Bang to the Sun.” We briefly introduced the Big Bang, then used what we learned as a starting point to begin our study on light behavior, wave properties and electromagnetic energy. Understanding how light behaves will allow us to continue our study of cosmology.
