Introduction Purpose Of This Summit • To recap the Junior program for 2012 • To identify our priorities for 2013 • To strategize the growth of juniors playing Ultimate • Gather information on improving our existing programming • To identify the needs of growing the Junior Ultimate program • Unite all parties involved with Junior Ultimate in the GTA 2

2012 Year In Review Junior Girls Ultimate Program (JGUP) The primary goal is to increase the number of girls playing ultimate in Toronto by teaching Spirit of the Game, rules, basic skills and strategies in a single-gender setting Saturday afternoons at Central Tech Gymnasium 1:30 to 4:30 PM – Jan to March 2012 Two sessions: (a) for ages 11 to 13 (b) for ages 14 to 18 19 girls total registered 4
2012 Year In Review Catch The Spirit High School Tournament – 8 th annual tournament for high school teams Dates: Thursday February 23 rd and Friday February 24 th – – Location: Downsview Hangar – Two day tournament with separate divisions: • B Division for beginner teams on Thursday February 23, 2012 • A Division for more Intermediate teams on Friday February 24, 2012 – B Division had 15 schools participate, the A division had 12 – Bowmanville won the B division, Northern Secondary won the A 5
2012 Year In Review TDSB and TDCSB – TUC attended and provided prizing at the following tournaments in an effort to promote the club: • Westview CSS High School Tournament (16 teams) • York Mills CI High School Tournament (12 teams) • Toronto District School Board High School City Semi-finals (4 teams) • Toronto District School Board Elementary West Championships (12 teams) • Toronto District School Board Elementary City Championships (8 teams) • Toronto District Catholic School Board “Unofficial” High School City Championships (12 Teams) 6
2012 Year In Review Juniors Touring in 2012 – 2012 saw TUC and the GTA All Stars begin the process of working together with regards to touring • TUC covered the overhead costs of flights, hotels, etc and the kids paid TUC directly • GTA All Stars ran a second open team that consisted of mainly Toronto Juniors – Overdrive open finished 4 th at Nationals, Overdrive Women finished 2 nd – GTA All Star provided coaching for the TJSL North East Youths. 7
2012 Year In Review Toronto Junior Summer League (TJSL) – Split TJSL into two divisions: • Youth Division (ages 8-13) • Teen Division (ages 14-17) – Ran from June 24 to the last week in August – Youth Division had 3 locations • Southwest – Mondays at Buttonwood Park (24) • Northeast – Wednesdays at Sir John A MacDonald (6) • South – Saturdays at Riverdale Park (10) – The first year of the Youth division had a total of 40 registered players – Youth “playoffs” on Sunday August 26 th at Riverdale Park. 8
2012 Year In Review Toronto Junior Summer League (TJSL) – Teen Division increase from 4 to 5 locations: • Southwest – Mondays at Buttonwood Park (24) • Northwest – Tuesdays at Westview CSS (42) • Northeast – Wednesdays at Agincourt CI (81) • Southeast – Thursdays at Cherry Beach (44) • *NEW* Central – Thursdays at Marshall McLuhan (25) – A total of 216 juniors participated in our 2012 summer teen divisions – An increase of 62 (teen + youth) participants from TJSL 2011 (194) – Ran first ever TJSL division at Mid-season with 4 teams Teen playoffs on Thursday August 30 th at Downsview Park – • 6 Teams participated • Won by TJSL Southeast 9
2012 Year In Review Toronto Junior Fall Outdoor League (TJFOL) • Expanded to two teen locations Agincourt CI in the north and Bloor CI in the south (did only Lawrence Park CI in 2011) • Attempted to do a Northwest at Westview but not enough interest • Ran a FREE Youth session Sunday afternoons (split between Queen Alexandria PS and Riverdale Park) • Fall Outdoor Participation: – Teen South 26 registered – Teen North 18 registered – Youth South 13 registered – Total of 57 total fall outdoor participants an increase of 21 fall outdoor participants from 2011 (36 registered) 10
2012 Year In Review Toronto Junior Indoor Leagues • Fall Indoor Teen Division at Monarch Park – Thursday evenings 7-8:30 PM Nov 1 to Dec 20 (8 weeks) – 27 Registered participants • Winter Teen Division at Monarch Park – Thursday evenings 7-8:30 PM January 10 to March 7 (9 weeks) – 20 Registered Participants • Winter Youth Sessions ( ages 8 – 13 ) – Two new Youth winter session (to replace JGUP) » East division Saturday 12-2 at Monarch Park runs from February 9 to March 23 (7 weeks) » West division Sunday 12-2 PM at Lakeshore CI dome from February 10 to March 24 (7 weeks) – 10 registered youths (4 East, 6 West) 11
2012 Year In Review Juniors Participating in Adult Leagues • 2012 saw 83 registered juniors not participating in TUC Junior leagues – Just over ¼ of our registered juniors participated in Adult leagues Mississauga Junior Pickup • Ran in July and August Sunday afternoons from 1-3 PM • Centrally located in Mississauga at Heritage Hills Park (just north of Square 1 Mall) • Inconsistent attendance due to late organization and promotion 12

2013 Junior League Programming Junior Pickup/Open House Thursday March 14 th 7pm – – 9pm at Monarch Park • FREE to all juniors – Daytime Junior pickup during March Break – Spring indoor TEEN league Thursday evenings at Monarch Park 7 – 9 PM March 21 to May 2 – Outdoor Spring Leagues? – Do we increase the number of summer locations offered? – Do we further define our age groups? • (8-10, 10-13, and 14-17) 14
2013 Junior League Programming – Do we offer a competitive and a recreational division in our teen leagues? – Should we consider inter location games during the summer? – Should we consider doing single gender leagues? – Should we do more junior tournaments? – Growing juniors outside of the city of Toronto? – How can we better promote the junior leagues and tournaments? 15
Junior Touring • Should TUC be running the Junior Touring Program coming out of Toronto? – Right now TUC only provides support by providing practice fields, sponsorship of $1500 and provides money laundering services as described above to the GTA All Stars in exchange for volunteer hours – TUC has no involvement on the operations of the team (budgeting, management, coaches) • Right now there is no long term stability for Toronto juniors • How do we continue to institute a stronger integration between our junior touring teams and our junior leagues 16
