About our plans We will award grants across the UK that put women and girls with caring responsibilities front and centre, offering them opportunities for fun, creative expression and (re)discovery of self through music-making
About Spirit Set up as an endowed trust by the National Lottery Community Fund in 2013 Committed to funding projects that bring people together for fun, inclusive participatory activity that increases wellbeing, changes perceptions and attitudes towards disability and improves social connectedness We are not going to be around forever – so it’s really important to us that we advance learning about what works in achieving our outcomes We stay close to our projects, and our approach works best when grantees are curious, reflective and open
Outcomes 1. Increase the wellbeing of participants through active music-making 2. Reduce isolation and / or loneliness amongst carers 3. Increase self-esteem and / or carers’ sense of potential (optional) 4. Explore – and challenge – gendered dimensions of caring (optional) Plus: 1. Test and evaluate approaches to increasing social connectedness for carers 2. Test and evaluate the efficacy of music as an intervention mechanism for this group
Learning & evaluation 5 learning events - the first will be held on 18 September 2019 Support from the What Works Centre for Wellbeing, the Behavioral Insights Team and your Spirit grant manager Up to 10% of your grant on monitoring and evaluation – mix of internal and external Contributing to the overall fund evaluation, by sharing your learning, data and reflections
Cohorts & numbers Might contain 4 song writing groups of 15 people OR 3 Choirs of 25 people etc Cohort One: October – March 2020 • Cohort 2: May set up more groups on a different day of the week or in Cohort Two: January – June 2020 • a different location. May continue with same groups but add a new intake. Cohort Three: April – September 2020 • Cohort Four: July – December 2020 •
