Carers Centre Service – what we do Information & Advice Carers often need help but do not know where to start. Refer them to us for information & advice. We are here to help. Refer via website www.ccth.org.uk One to One Support We provide one to one support to carers. This includes emotional support and advocacy. We will work with carers to explore the options that are available to them. Carers Assessments and ongoing support We will complete Carers Assessments on behalf of the council – the aim is to promote carers assessments to every carer we work with. Welfare Benefits Support & Advice We provide help, support and advice with Benefits and Grants for both carer & cared for
Carers Centre Service – what we do Royal London Carers Hub We will work across Royal London Hospital and support established carers and those who suddenly come into the caring role and may not be aware of the support services available to help them in their caring role. Our base is on the 11 th floor. Outreach Hubs Current outreach hubs are Teviot Centre, Old Surgery and St Hilda’s East. We will have hubs in GP practices within the 8 GP Networks in the borough. Lasting Power of Attorney Applications We support carers and the cared for through the application process for a Lasting Power of Attorney once eligibility has been determined i.e. sufficient mental capacity. Carers Emergency Card We will issues emergency cards for carers linked to their Framework I ID so if the unexpected happens, there is a clear and well thought contingency plans should Adult Social Care need to provide urgent services and also give the carer peace of mind.
Carers Centre Service – what we do Young Adult Carers Support Aim to identify & support young adult carers (16-25), helping them to maintain their independence, improve sense of wellbeing and opportunities. Social Activities We run a wide range of social activities throughout the year. Our events include Christmas and Eid parties to day trips for carers and a monthly Relaxation Day for all carers to come together to make new friends or meet old friends. Peer Support Groups Current support groups – Carers Forum, Carers Coffee Morning. New peer support groups – Young Adult Carers group, Bengali speaking group, Somali speaking group, dementia group, volunteer support group. Carers Residential Retreats Each year, there are 60 residential retreats available to carers (free of charge).
Monday 10 th June – Pamper & Therapy Day for Carers (10am – 3pm at the Carers Centre) Tuesday 11 th June - Carers Forum (11.30am – 1.30pm at the Carers Centre) (theme on reducing loneliness & ways to better connect carers to their communities) Carers Week Wednesday 12 th June – 21 st Birthday 2019 Celebration & Information Day (11am – 3pm at Activities the Carers Centre) Friday 14 th June – Day Trip to Brighton for Carers (9.30am departure from the Carers Centre) Additional Carers Week Events in Tower Hamlets – 10 th June – Rethink Carers Celebration 12 th June – Laughing & Music workshops ( 11am – 2pm)

Carers Academy Service – what we do Are the courses free? All Carers Academy courses and workshops for carers are free. Whether a carer is new to caring or been caring for a long time, our training will help carers develop skills and confidence to support themselves in their caring roles. Upcoming training courses June - Welfare Benefit Training for Carers – Carers Allowance & Attendance Allowance, Digital Skills for Carers, Understanding Complex & Challenging Behaviour, July – Foot Health & Care – ELFT, September – Carers into Work – Carers Trust, January 2020 – ESOL for Carers Volunteer Scheme We run a volunteer scheme for both current and former carers who want to support other carers. We welcome applicants who are keen to share the knowledge and skills to help us really improve our offering to carers. How to sign up/refer? To sign up/refer, please refer via the CCTH website. Carers will need to register with the Carers Centre first either online or in person.
Message to providers & professionals We want to collaborate with you and need your support! Please refer as many carers as possible so that Tower Hamlets is a beacon of excellence for unpaid Carers, after all carers is everyone’s business!
