  1. TENTH SHOOT PRESENTATION The Hydro

  2. THE HYDRO, GLASGOW I plan on visiting The Hydro. The benefit of The Hydro being next to the Clyde Auditorium was that I will be able to get two shoots done in quick succession as they are placed directly next to each other. I aim to express the futuristic style of The Hydro through focusing on the curvature of the building and the repeating features which feature along it. The strong leading lines will become an effective tool for me so I plan to use these to express the curving style of the structure. I plan to use techniques such as low angles, varying camera orientations and leading lines to promote the futuristic style of this building. I hope to achieve shots in which draw in my viewer through the curvature of lines and the variation in shape. These elements are full of energy and I believe they could add flow and energy to my image. This will hopefully attract the viewer’s attention and make a successful shoot in terms of capturing my audience’s attention. I also hope I can achieve strong contrasts between the sky and The Hydro, as the building is a neutrally coloured building; this all depends on what the weather Is like on the day however.

  3. TOP 5 IMAGES, PICTURE 1 Aperture: f/5.6 Shutter Speed: 1/500 ISO: 100 The composition of this image effectively promotes the curve of the building, thus showing its 3D dynamic properties. This draws in the viewer as the 2D image appears 3D. The framing of this shot creates an unbalanced amount of negative space. This surrounds my main subject which effectively draws in the viewer’s eye to The Hydro, thus making it a focal point.

  4. TOP 5 IMAGES, PICTURE 2 Aperture: f/7.1 Shutter Speed: 1/400 ISO: 100 The lines featured on the side of the Hydro follow the curve of the building which, personally, leads my eye along the curve. This means the lines act as leading lines. In this shot, the framing means there is a balance between the positive and negative space within this image. This creates a peaceful image as the balance works in conjunction with each other.

  5. TOP 5 IMAGES, PICTURE 3 Aperture: f/5.6 Shutter Speed: 1/800 ISO: 100 The curvature and shape of the Hydro creates excitement and a sense of movement to the image. This helps to engage the viewer. The monochrome filter applied by my camera creates a harsh contrast between the Hydro and the bright white sky. This attracts the viewer’s attention as it the Hydro disrupts the white sky.

  6. TOP 5 IMAGES, PICTURE 4 Aperture: f/5.6 Shutter Speed: 1/800 ISO: 100 The perspective in which I took this shot included the Clyde Auditorium in the background. The small size relative to the bigger size of the Hydro creates a contrast in proportions. This shot is off balance as the ground is not perfectly horizontal. The slant in the ground distracts me so I would have to fix this in Photoshop.

  7. TOP 5 IMAGES, PICTURE 5 Aperture: 7.1 Shutter Speed: 1/320 ISO: 100 The variety of straight lines and curving lines creates a contrast as the straight lines provide minimal energy and creates an ordered scheme to the picture, whereas, the curving lines provide unpredictability and energy to the shot. By photographing this building in black and white the patterns are far more fascinating. The viewer is able to start to notice the distinct patterns everywhere in this image.

  8. FINAL 2 IMAGES – PICTURE 1 Aperture: f/5.6 Shutter Speed: 1/800 ISO: 100 The repetition of the rectangles forming round the building creates a pattern which attracts the viewer’s attention. This is because the pattern creates a predictable structure which calms the viewer. Using an aperture of f/5.6 allowed me to blur the background whilst keeping the Hydro in focus. This attracts the eye towards the Hydro thus making it a focal point.

  9. FINAL 2 IMAGES – PICTURE 2 When composing this shot I had to remember that the building and its details closer to the lens will show as heavier tones. I used this to my advantage to create strong leading lines. To stop camera shake when handholding the camera for this image I ensured that the shutter speed equalled the focal length. Aperture: f/7.1 Shutter Speed: 1/400 ISO: 100

  10. POST PRODUCTION Original Edit

  11. Aperture: f/5.6 Shutter Speed: 1/800 ISO: 100 FINAL IMAGE – CURVATURE The over exaggeration of scale is emphasised through the small buildings in the background relative to the Hydro which appears to be much bigger in size. This provides an interesting contrast with size and perspectives. The curvature of the stone below the Hydro acts as a leading line which leads the eye across the image and into the background where the sky and smaller buildings stand. The monochrome filter eliminates the distraction of colour which means the viewer is forced to examine the details of my main subject. The landscape camera orientation allowed me to include more detail in my shot. I believe this enhances the viewer's immersion with the photo as they are shown more detail than what is visible in a vertical shot.
