• It is really important for children to be in school everyday and on time. • School starts at 8.55am • In year 4, the moment children enter the classroom at 9am, they begin their work. If children miss even a couple of minutes, it has an impact on their learning.
Routines can really help in getting things sorted in the morning and in the evenings. • There need to be routines for: • Going to bed • Having a set time and space for homework – this means children get to rest as well as get their homework done • Eating meals at the right times • Use of games/TV/outdoor play – there needs to be a balance between these activities and reading, writing and talking
Homework is an important way for children to consolidate learning at home . Year 4 homework does require a set time and a space for the children to work in. • Homework will be given out on Friday and collected on Wednesday morning unless it is an overnight piece of homework. • We expect all children to complete their homework and bring it in. • We also expect reading with a parent to be a part of homework. It is vital that parents check children’s homework and reading record book. • Children in year 4 are expected to change their own reading books from the classroom library (they have reading journals to record in). Children WILL benefit from regularly visiting the Idea Store . • • Children WILL benefit from a visit t o WH Smiths , Waterstones or any other good bookshops .
It is important for your child to be prepared for their PE and swimming sessions each week. PE and swimming are a key part of the curriculum and allow your child to develop their motor, teamwork and communication skills. • We expect all children to bring in their PE kit which consists of black bottoms (leggings, shorts or jogging bottoms); a purple Stewart Headlam PE t-shirt as well as trainers or plimsolls. • We expect all children to bring in their swimming kit which consists of a swimsuit, a swimming cap, and a towel. • SWIMMIMNG IS ON THURSDAYS. • If they are well enough to attend school, then they must take part in PE/ Swimming unless they have a note from the doctors/ other circumstances.
It is important for your child to wear their full school uniform everyday. It allows the children to feel like part of our school community as well as being ready for their learning. • Your child needs to be wearing a purple Stewart Headlam jumper, cardigan or fleece; a coloured polo-top; black trousers, skirt or pinafore and black sensible shoes.
• Make sure your child attends school everyday and on time • Bring your book bag to school everyday • Make sure your child has support to do their homework and brings it in on the specified day • Make sure your child eats breakfast in the morning.
