Work Performed This Week – Training session by Daria Koliabina on “ NORMALYSA Tool for Safety Assessment and Uranium Residues Management ” . – Updates of model-model/data comparisons for the Case Studies for the Tenssenderlo Chemie Phosphase Processing Site, the Zapadnoe Uranium Tailing Site, and the Brazil Tin Processing Site. – Presentation by Daria Koliabina on “ Update on the Zapadnoe Mill Tailings Site Case Study ” . – Joint Session with the LeTrench Project Team , to share program and discuss opportunities for leveraging/collaboration. – Presentation by Danyl Pérez-Sánchez on “ Spanish Huelva Site case study of long-lasting NORM exposure situation: Analysis of Social Impact and stakeholder involvement ” . Collaboration with the LeTrench Project • Both groups expressed interest in collaboration • LeTrench shared draft report; final report in April 2019 • WG1 and LeTrench participants will jointly prepare a section in WG1 Chap. 2 to summarize lessons learned and explore opportunities for using risk-informed decision-making approach in management of legacy trenches. Collaboration with the WG4 K d Team • The K d Team to share their K d database for fresh water environment • Paul Black provided his compilation of the K d data collected from the U.S. DOE sites • WG1 to provide the draft Interim Report to the K d Team for review of alternative treatments and K d data selections for the Case Studies • Joint team to explore the possibilities for developing a case study to demonstrate the application of alternative models post MODARIA II IAEA 9
Making Progress on Draft Interim Report • Chapter 3 (Risk-formed decision making approach): Expanded draft. • Chapter 4 (Additional Considerations): ✓ Annotated outline for completing draft on Models for Intended Use and on the K d Approach and Alternative Methods. ✓ Completed draft section on Decision Processes for Legacy Trench Management ✓ Continued discussion of consistency between and integration of chemical vs. radiological risk assessments. • Chapter 5 (Example Toolsets): ✓ Compiled list of codes used in Case Studies. ✓ Prepared summary sections on NORMALYSA and AMBER capabilities. • Chapter 6 (Tessenderlo Phosphate Processing Site Case Study): ✓ Completed draft on PC-CREAM Model setup; checking results of initial runs. • Chapter 7 (Zapadnoe Uranium Mill Tailings Site Case Study): ✓ GOLDSIM model set up; Checking results of initial runs. • Chapter 8 (Brazil Tin Processing Case Study): ✓ Expanded Chap. 8 and added Appendix C with details for site description and model setup IAEA 10
