U NIFIED B ASKETBALL Unified Basketball helps promote social interaction, and physical activity. It teaches leadership and teamwork. Unified Basketball teams are made up of “Unified Student Athletes” and “Unified Student Partners”
T HERE IS NO “I” IN TEAM The team is made up of 3 “Unified Student Athletes” and 2 “Unified Student Partners” The “Unified Student Partners” are part of the team to facilitate the play and to support “sport specific” skills. But …. Partners can not score more than 25% of the points. Can not play defense against a Unified athlete Can not steel the ball or set screens against the opposing unified athlete.
T HE G OAL IS …. For all students to participate and contribute to the game. For all students to learn from each other. For all students to have meaningful involvement.
F UN F ACTS Cony hosted the first Unified Basketball game in the state of Maine in 2015. It was coached by Paul Vashon! Cony has 7 games set up for this year. First game is scheduled for February 25 th . There are now over sixty teams in the State of Maine.

S PECIAL O LYMPICS “The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year- round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community .” (specialolympics.org/about/our - mission)
C ONY Participates in Spring Special Olympics hosted at RSU #2 Focus is on Track and Field Cony has participated in Special Olympics for 25 years. There is an “ALL School” send off for the students and coaches the day of Special Olympics! ASD supports all students and this send off is very powerful! Come join us in celebrating our students.
