Bioassessment 2019 Expanded Dissolved Oxygen Monitoring • Multi-parameter probes were set at 7 sites from Burr Ridge up to Willow Creek, 6 in main stem, one in Willow Creek. • 4-5 day deployment of DO meters at 7 sites based on weather • Benthic chlorophyll a samples were be collected • 2 rounds of expanded nutrient sampling were collected while DO probes were deployed • This was completed with a combination of MBI and TCF staff

  6. 2019 Sampling • Main stem Des Plaines River • 22 stations • Silver Creek & Crystal Creek • 3 stations • Willow Creek Watershed • 5 stations • Schiller Woods Tributary • 1 station All stations will have fish, macroinvertebrate, habitat and water chemistry collected. Selected sites will have sediment collected.

  7. 2019 Sampling • Due to high water conditions in 2018, 4 stations were not completed for fish • LDG19, LDG20, LDG21 & LDG22 were resampled for fish in 2019 • Chemistry was collected at LDG19, LDG21 and LDG22 • This additional sampling was covered from cost savings in 2018

Chloride Watershed Group Responsibilities (DRAFT) • Meet at least twice a year, through out variance term • Submit a Status Report to IEPA • Compile and analyze individual discharger Annual Report into a watershed wide report • Include monitoring data, outreach strategy, outreach & training for nonpoint sources • Identify new BMPs and treatment technologies to reduce chlorides • Identify impediments to implementing BMPs and possible solutions • Identify any financial, technical or other assistance the workgroup could provide to overcome impediments • Results of criteria measurement and compliance

Chloride Watershed Group Responsibilities (DRAFT) • Prepare outreach and education material to create awareness about environmental impacts of chloride and share with chloride users for distribution. This could include: • Social media, web-based materials • Trainings • Possible incentives • Funding or support to implement BMPs in communities that can’t afford new equipment • Coordinate with IEPA to identify MS4 communities within TLWQS area and encourage participation as well as provide outreach materials • Work with IEPA to identify different NPS categories in year 7 • Identify all sampling points and frequency in a sampling plan

  11. CL TLWQS Next Steps • IPCB submitted questions to petitioners in July – due back in September • Public Hearings likely late Fall or in Winter • US EPA Region 5 comments • Approval possibly late winter – early spring
