School of Chemistry & Biochemistry SCHOOL MEETING – FEBRUARY 25 2013 Other School matters • Congratulations: Mihwa Lee selected to talk at Lorne Protein Meeting (as one of 4 Young Investigator Awards) and subsequently judged best of the four by a panel. Receives her travel and attendance at the UK Biochemical Society meeting later in the year. • Staff departure: Colin Raston has accepted a position as Vice Chancellor Strategic Professor of Clean Energy Technology and SA Premier’s Professorial Research Fellow in Clean Energy Technology at Flinders University, commencing 28 February. • Staff welcomes: Josh Mylne commenced as ARC Future Fellow (joint appointment with ARC COE PEB) on January 31; Amir Karton joined the School from USyd, ARC APD; Julie La Spina is no longer Acting School Manager, but has an ongoing appointment; Emma Seeds , a new face at the Reception Desk. • Thefts from labs: There is no substitute for locking laboratories when unoccupied. • ARC LIEF proposals : From the School of Physics: “ The School provides an automatic seed of up to $25k for bids that are aligned with the strategic research priorities of the School. We naturally seek to multiply that as much as possible ”. For ‘non-strategic’ proposals “ the Faculty will provide to a maximum of $25k or 50% of the 50% matching required by RMF (where this is less than $25k)” The University of Western Australia
