  3. School of Chemistry & Biochemistry SCHOOL MEETING – MARCH 25 2013 Load compared with 2012 2013 2012 (final) Total load (EFTSL) 893.5 865.9 Undergraduate (excl. Honours) 513.4 501.1 Honours 18.0 22.1 HDR 81.0 81.9 International Off-shore (PSB) 281.2 258.8 The University of Western Australia

  4. School of Chemistry & Biochemistry SCHOOL MEETING – MARCH 25 2013 How are we travelling compared with 2013 FFM model? 2012 final 2013 projection 2013 actual WEFTSL WEFTSL WEFTSL DEEWR 911 1154 (+27%) ~966 coursework International 139 144 (4%) ~94 coursework HDR 160 136 (–15%) ~162 • FFM allocation for 2013 was based on the mean of actual 2012 load and projected 2013 load. Not meeting 2013 projections would mean a loss of income. • Fortunately SCB agreed for the Faculty to withhold a substantial amount for 2013. The University of Western Australia

  5. School of Chemistry & Biochemistry SCHOOL MEETING – MARCH 25 2013 A reminder about income: • Never lose sight of those activities that earn the School its income; this is your School, and your income. • It pays all the overheads associated with your activities: ✓ salaries ✓ superannuation ✓ workshop and chemical store activities ✓ other basic infrastructure in Bayliss (‘public’ printers, photocopiers, minor equipment purchase and maintenance, teaching lab consumables, coffee, tea, milk...) ✓ salary top-ups ✓ strategic $$ contributions to safety-net, ARC LIEF bids etc ✓ contributions to replacement computers ✓ HDR support The University of Western Australia

  6. School of Chemistry & Biochemistry SCHOOL MEETING – MARCH 25 2013 Other School matters Welcome : • Aleksandra Filipovska and Oliver Rackham as joint appointments to the School and WAIMR. Congratulations: • Scott Stewart has been awarded a fellowship under the JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) Invitation Fellowship Programs for Research in Japan. • Vipul Agarwal has been selected to take part in the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting this year; the theme for 2013 is Chemistry. 37 Nobel Laureates will be participating • Michael Wise has been elected to the Council of COPE - Committee on Publication Ethics, based in London (COPE is “a nonprofit organization whose mission is to define best practice in the ethics of scholarly publishing and to assist editors, publishers, etc. to achieve this” The University of Western Australia
