Safe And Respectful Environments Discussion Leo Aliaga Fernanda Psihas Karl Warburton
An FSPA - UEC e ff ort. Goal: To follow up on the discussion about safe and respectful environments and discuss a format for a combined e ff ort on these topics. Motivation: Promoting an environment of respect and understanding, promoting behaviors conducive to improving work environment. Instead of starting from zero, we started from the following suggested points as straw-man goals for an this e ff ort. These are a combination of the existing UEC initiative and the FSPA e ff orts. Proposal: Form a combined committee of FSPA and UEC with equal participation/responsibility. Today we will discuss the goals and basic format. F Ψ 2
Goals Develop and maintain an in-reach program (“take-5”-style campaign) promoting kindness and correct approaches when encountering disrespectful behavior. This in collaboration with the communications o ffi ce. Survey users on the general climate and environment of the Fermilab community. Act as a hub for users in concerns of work environment and provide feedback to the lab about the global environment. Expanding on the campaign initiated by FSPA of speaker series supported by the Fermilab TA,D&I o ffi ce. Focus on related topics. S E N I L E Speakers would be proposed by all members of UEC and FSPA. D I G U Talks to rotate on time-slots for existing seminars. N O I S S U C S D I F Ψ 3
Topics Including and Beyond ED&I Develop a program covering at least the following topics: ✦ General environment improvement techniques. ✦ Neuro-diversity in the workplace ✦ Awareness of hidden disabilities ✦ Disability accommodations. ✦ Interpersonal conflict resolution techniques. ✦ Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. ✦ Productivity boosting through positive environments Thank you to all UEC members and FSPA o ffi cers for providing feedback S E N I L to build these talking points! Brief outline of how things worked last year - FSPA A lot of the program last year was through a combination of e ff ort by Midhat, Brian and Sowjanya, in combination with Sandra Charles’ o ffi ce. Had a clearly defined aim for the 3 seminar series which we had last year (below). http://fspa.fnal.gov/diversity-and-inclusion/ Speakers were selected which would be great fits to deliver that goal. From an FSPA perspective we definitely want to see this e ff ort continue. Branching out to include UEC more formally may ensure continuity? By making it a joint e ff ort may lend more direction for external interested to be involved? eg the potential winter series we have previously discussed here. F Ψ 5
