RJR Stadium Proposal Role of the Staff of the WSFCS Remain neutral and protect the interest of the district Listen to both sides Advise Home Field Advantage on details as though WSFCS were developing the site. Along the way..

  1. RJR Stadium Proposal Role of the Staff of the WSFCS Remain neutral and protect the interest of the district Listen to both sides Advise Home Field Advantage on details as though WSFCS were developing the site.

  2. Along the way….. This project has received a lot of media attention There has been a joint community meeting There have been meetings involving Home Field Advantage and Save Hanes Park (Multiple) There have been meetings with: RJR School Staff Save Hanes Park Operations Staff, B/G Chairman and Superintendent City County Planning

  3. So what came out of those meetings? From operations perspective on every project there are compelling and non-compelling reasons for each site. Both groups are passionate and truly care Home Field Advantage compromised and reduced the size of their project. There are four variations of this project. Save Hanes Park is not against RJR having their own stadium, it is the location. Home Field Advantage to meet with Legal (Ali) to discuss (501- 3c status, and other details)

  4. Home Field Advantage: Costs They Are Responsible For…. New stadium and associated site work New Wiley (shared) gym Demolition of both Wiley & RJR Girls Gym Bryson Gym improvements enabling women's PE & sports programs to meet regulations, including shared unisex training room (this is not a complete renovation of Bryson Gym) Design, permit expenses, inspections & misc. expenses to complete a functional campus

  5. School District Costs Locate a new central yellow bus staging lot or cover increased deadheading of yellow buses (may minimize that by only relocating buses on Friday game nights) Construction program oversight & management to insure the project meets district guidelines

  6. Site Plan Comparison June Plan Sept Plan Capacity 4,500 3,000 Parking Req. 1,125 750 Linear feet wall 1,800 382

  18. Lets Discuss Joint Use of New Wiley Gym

  19. Wiley Shared Gym features include: Dedicated middle school locker rooms Two wood practice courts (PE) for daily use (one middle- one high) Upper level indoor track One game court with 400-450 foldout bleachers Concession areas for stadium & gym Separate public restrooms (for gym or stadium) One set of public restrooms double as separate high school locker areas Air conditioned gym and new boiler-mech room

  20. New Shared Wiley Gym

  21. Bryson Gym Evaluation Bryson gym overall has available athletic and PE sq footage comparable to new schools. (Walkertown, Reagan, Atkins) Women's PE & Sports spaces can be retrofitted in older locker spaces before the girls gym is demolished Unisex training room and weight room centrally located to men's and women's common areas

  22. Bryson Gym Retrofit

  23. Bryson Gym Compared to District Standard

  24. Wiley & RJR - During Construction When schools are renovated or upgraded; Gyms, athletic and PE spaces are periodically placed out of service as necessary. PE may be outside only. Some sports seasons may be scheduled as “away games” RJR - Women's PE & Sports spaces can be retrofitted in older locker spaces before the Girls gym is demolished. Wiley - Will have to use alternate changing space and restrooms for on site PE & sports. RJR - Some sports will require offsite location coordination or be scheduled as away games. Wiley - Sports will require coordination for high school locations, located offsite, or scheduled as away games

  25. Site Considerations - Con Will have to find a new center city bus staging lot for 47 Yellow buses and 10 activity buses for varsity football game nights Wiley site will become smaller for outdoor PE (11.9 acres including RJR girls and boys gyms) Wiley will have limited growth potential. The students will have to be housed within the existing buildings (no mobiles or pods) Increase in traffic around the schools & parking for large game day events Proposed text amendment may require two public hearings for stadium parking & traffic Just like other projects at conceptual stage, there is not an approved site plan – We should consider more issues may surface to be worked out as plans are finalized.

  26. Site Considerations - Pro Greatly reduces high school student travel to other sites for practice and all but a few games High school students have more school ownership with an on campus field Middle school receives a safer off street pickup-drop-off from existing on street pickup-drop-off Deaton-Thompson could have open dates for other events or Parkland could have sole use Deaton-Thompson could be smaller with future repair plans Should we close Bolton soccer stadium, providing more site flexibility for buildings, pickup drop-off and buses when Bolton is renovated

  27. Site Considerations - NEUTRAL Large varsity football games will have to be scheduled at a larger stadium Turf field will require a fund setup for replacement at the end of it’s 12-15 year life. An opportunity to try turf before installing in existing stadiums. Demolition of the RJR girls gym: With girls PE & locker improvements in Bryson, there should be no Title 9 issues By using 1/2 of the new Wiley gym, RJR can do everything that is done in the girls gym now District will have 15,000 sq ft less to maintain, but will have a stadium to maintain Wiley Middle gets a new gym/locker, but must share with the high school

  28. Next Steps After tonight and once a few more details are completed…. It will come back to the board for discussion.
