  1. Returning To Reese Public Schools With Confidence COVID-19 Parent Guide DRAFT

  2. Reese Public Schools Vision Statement We will provide an educational journey that inspires each individual to achieve their full potential in a safe and caring environment.

  3. Welcome Back Reese Families, Reese Back to School Task Force developed this plan to help our students, staff, and community members learn the steps we are taking to keep everyone safe when we return to school on August 24, 2020. During these uncertain times, we must focus on controlling what we can, while continuing to create a safe learning environment. Reese Public Schools will adapt and make changes as we learn more about COVID-19 and follow the health and safety protocols issued by authorities.

  4. We Can Do This-Rocket Strong Protecting All Rockets ● Monitor your health daily- you are the first level of defense in preventing COVID-19 from entering the school building. ● Students-Take your temperature before leaving home Staff- take your temperature and self-assess for symptoms before leaving ● home ● Follow your district’s entrance procedures ● Wash or sanitize your hands frequently Maintain physical distancing ● ● Help keep our school clean ● Wear a face mask? To be determined by CDC and Governor Task Force

  5. Entering The District Buildings Reese Public Schools will implement measures to help prevent the COVID-19 virus from entering our buildings is the first step in our multi-faceted approach in maintaining a safe and healthy educational environment. New entry procedures have been designed and will keep our students and staff healthy during the school day. Staff Entrance Procedures- answering a simple Covid-19 questionnaire, social distancing, hand sanitizing, temperature screening, signage and (masks). To be determined by CDC and Governor Task Force Student Entrance Procedures-social distancing, hand sanitizing, temperature screening, signage and (masks). To be determined by CDC and Governor Task Force

  6. Hand Sanitizing 1. Doors will be open to eliminate touch points. 2. Use forearm or shoulder if doors are closed in the building. 3. All entrances, classrooms, main entrances, and other locations in the buildings will have hand sanitizer.

  7. Temperature Screening An elevated temperature is an indicator of potential COVID-19 infection. All students and staff will be checked when they enter the school building. If you have an elevated temperature, you will be sent home or to the sick room. (Students riding the bus will be checked before getting on the bus) Screening Directions Remove hats or glasses (to get an accurate reading) ● ● Stand in the designated area in front of the screening device ● Screening will occur at optimum distance to maximize the safety of the entrant and the screener Temperature taken in 2-5 seconds with a “no-touch’ device ●

  8. Keeping Clean To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, it is important to wash your hands often and keep common touchpoint surfaces (restrooms, cafeterias, workstations, meeting rooms, etc.) clean. To do so, we have increased sanitization responsibilities of our custodial team and are asking each one of you to contribute. ● Touchpoint-Increasing the frequency of high touchpoint areas. ● Sanitization Stations- Providing designated areas where sanitizer can be found. ● Hand washing- Frequent washing or sanitizing of hands.

  9. Touchpoint Sanitization and Cleaning Custodial staff will increase frequency for common touch surfaces. The following will be cleaned 3-4 times during the school day. ● All entry/exit points ● Restrooms Doors, handrails, and high traffic areas. ● ● Areas that have been sanitized will be clearly marked with signage identifying the latest time the area was cleaned.

  10. Sanitizations Stations Sanitization stations are identified where you can expect to find hand sanitizer. Possible locations include: ● Entry Points Classrooms ● ● Front Office ● Meeting Rooms ● Conference Room

  11. Handwashing • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water throughout the day. • Alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used when soap and water are not available-All classrooms will have hand sanitizer. • Always wash or sanitize your hands before eating or drinking. • Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose or mouth

  12. Physical Distancing and Ventilation Physical distancing, also called “social distancing,” is the act of keeping two metres of distance between yourself and other people. So, why two metres? Thanks to gravity, the droplets we each expel when we breathe, talk, cough or sneeze, will likely travel less than two metres before falling to the ground or surfaces below face level. Physical distancing, in combination with minimizing touchpoints and utilizing controlled airflow, is crucial in preventing the spread of COVID-19. ● Focus Areas and Best Practices-Physical Distancing protocols for classrooms, offices, gymnasium, cafeteria, and other spaces. ● Doors Open Strategy-Propping doors open to increase airflow and prevent the need to use hands. ● Fans and Ventilation-Managing ventilation to possibly decrease the risk of infection.

  13. Doors Open Strategy Propping doors open can increase airflow and eliminate touch points in high traffic areas. All interior doors will remain open during the school day. (Lock Down Drills/Emergency Exception) All entrance and exit doors will be open for arrival and dismissal of students. Those exterior doors will be locked and wiped down immediately. Pushing to Open a Door if necessary -use another part of your body (hip, shoulder, or elbow) to open the door without using your hand. Pulling a Door Open - if you need to turn a handle, use a towel/wipe on handle or wash/sanitize hands after opening.

  14. Handling Possible Covid-19 Cases Helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19 relies on being prepared, acting promptly and being proactive when it comes to assuring our methods are effective. Reese Public Schools will accomplish this by focusing on: ● Suspected Cases- Being prepared to identify and handle possible cases of COVID-19 ● Checking the effectiveness of Protocol-Communication

  15. Suspected Cases If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms such as fever, chills, cough, difficulty breathing, runny or congested nose, headache, difficulty swallowing, sore throat, loss of sense of taste and smell, muscle/joint aches, diarrhea, fatigue, abdominal cramps or nausea, do not come to school. Students experiencing symptoms at school should report to the sick room. The sick room will be isolated from students and staff. Students will not be allowed to attend class until symptoms are gone. Students and staff should not report to school until symptoms have.

  16. Checking Effectiveness Reese Public Schools will be updating families as changes take place in the protocol. If students and staff see something that concerns them, take action in a respectful manner and/or contact a Reese staff member. Reese Public School’s Back to School Task Force will continue to monitor and verify that the school buildings are safe and following protocol. We will provide building tours before the first day of school on August 24, 2020 and concerns will be addressed.

  17. Returning To Reese Public Schools With Confidence We will continue to update families on different learning plans as we get closer to school starting on August 24, 2020.
