Partnership Working • Meet regularly with Road Safety Officers from all the authorities within the Yorkshire and Humber region to share information and ideas • Continue to meet with officers from the other three S.Y authorities to set targets and co-ordinate our overall approach to reducing casualties • Maintain regular contact with other practitioners and work together to achieve the National and Local casualty reduction targets. These include S.Y. Police, Health Authority, Fire and Rescue Service, Engineers, Safety Camera Partnership, School travel Planners, local retailers etc.

  6. Future Events • The “Heroes Roadshow” will visit four comprehensive schools between 5-8 March • Richard Rozel, the road safety clown will be providing 20 performances of his magical show for primary school pupils between 5-16 March • Distribution of Information in support of the new mobile phone legislation • “Choices” an interactive play looking at attitudes to driving, for comprehensive pupils will be rolled out throughout the year • Launch of “For my Valentine” campaign, aimed at young drivers

  7. For My Valentine – background •Every year approximately 3500 people are killed in road crashes countrywide with many more seriously injured •A disproportionate number of crashes involve the 17 -25 age group with inappropriate speed being a significant factor in these •In Rotherham this age group forms 9.6% of the population but in last 3 years made up 40% of the number of people killed and seriously injured •This age group is difficult to reach having left school and being in a position to drive •Poster campaign devised to try and increase young driver awareness about the dangers of travelling at inappropriate speed and reduce their chance of being involved in a crash

  8. The poster campaign •Design of the posters directed towards young drivers with various hard hitting messages •Posters are to be A4 sized fastened to street lights •Places where young people frequent on a regular basis will be targeted •These include areas of the town centre together with the centres of Dinnington, Maltby, Swinton and Wath •A number of sites near secondary schools and colleges will also be targeted •Campaign will be run 3 times per year to ensure the message is maintained •First campaign aimed at Valentines Day hence the ‘For My Valentine’ theme
