You are members Associate Professor Rodney Vickers, University of Wollongong of 115 students who won a prize out of 830 projects. Presentation of IIATE Models and Innovation Awards In 2018, there were 100 schools that entered the STANSW Young Scientist Presentation of MANSW Working Mathematically Awards Awards program and 47 of these schools won awards. Also 97 of the prize Message from NESA Inspector, Science winners entered for the first time. This is very encouraging and you should feel Kerry Sheehan motivated to keep improving on your work. Macinley Butson (who was joint Young Scientist of the Year in 2017) became NSW Young Australian of the Year, and Oliver Nicholls won the Keynote Address US $75,000 Gordon E. Moore award when the STANSW Young Scientist Awards Eddie Woo, 2018 Australia’s Local Hero Award recipient took a delegation to ISEF earlier this year. Presentation of Sponsored Awards Part II Announcement of Rural Young Scientist Awards None of this would have happened if we did not have a dedicated group of Announcement of Grand Awards people on the STANSW Young Scientist committee, which this year was led by Dr Melissa Thompson, ISEF Judging Panel Anjali Rao. I would like to recognise the many hours the committee dedicate to Closing address this program and also thank the teachers who support their students and the Margaret Shepherd, President, Science Teachers’ Association of NSW judging process for their commitment to science. 2018 STANSW Young Scientist Awards Presentation Ceremony 2018 STANSW Young Scientist Awards Presentation Ceremony STANSW Young Scientist Committee MESSAGE FROM THE COORDINATOR Anjali Chandrasekar-Rao ( Coordinator ) What a year I chose to take on the role of STANSW Bob Wheway ( IIATE Representative ) Young Scientist Coordinator! It has seen the successful Suzanne Berry ( MANSW Council ) launch of many new initiatives, new sponsorship Julie Rogers ( STANSW Council ) collaborations, an exponential increase in student Maree Woods ( STANSW Counci l) participation in the program and of course national and Leonard Cheung international success beyond any of our wildest James Cleaver dreams. Lauren DiMarco Ian Fairhurst In December 2017 we were thrilled to learn that Macinley Butson, (Joint Young Scientist of the Year, Firth Garth 2017) had been chosen as the NSW Young Australian of the Year. Macinley Stuart Garth has been a wonderful and inspirational ambassador for STEM and Ann Hanna particularly women in STEM, presenting and speaking at workshops, Edwina Hine symposia and even to royalty! Annie Martin Michele Mawer In February we welcomed a new sponsor for our Primary Working Philippa Miller Technologically category awards as well as the Paper Planes competition - the OshClub and Junior Adventurers Group. It has been a pleasure to work Elizabeth O'Connor alongside them and we look forward to a long and fruitful collaboration.
