  6. What is DMIRS? The Digital Minor Illness Referral Service (DMIRS) aims to appropriately manage patients contacting NHS 111 with low acuity conditions, by referring the patient to a community pharmacy. The primary aim of the DMIRS is to increase capacity in the system and relieve pressure on existing urgent care services; delivering care closer to home in the community and promoting self care. 7. How has DMIRS come to Devon? • Started as a pilot in North East England (since September 2017) • Funded by the Pharmacy Integration Fund Early results, based on 7,404 completed referrals from the first 7 months of provision, show that almost 64% of referrals resulted in appropriate advice being given, with 31% of these patients also purchasing a recommended medication . 9. Why is the service important? • It is a formal referral from the NHS – integrating community pharmacy into a patient pathway • It will reinforce the recent NHSE guidance: ‘Conditions for which over the counter items should not routinely be prescribed in primary care ’; and • ‘It will further encourage patients to choose their community pharmacy as their first point of contact for advice’ DMIRS Digital Minor Illness Referral Service • Helps develop community pharmacy’s position as a
