Work to date • Established a Strategy working group of health, social care, education, organisations that support people with autism and their families and also carers of people with autism • Mapped current support, services and gaps and issues • Inclusion North held focus groups with families to share initial findings • Workshop held to agree high level priorities • Draft Action Plan is being developed

What people are telling us - 1 • Need support to access diagnosis faster • Its should be about needs, not diagnosis – the diagnosis gets you nothing • Support people with autism need support to understand what it means to live with the condition and the impact on their families • There needs to be awareness raising in universal and specialist services – so people with autism can be supported appropriately

What people are telling us - 2 • People with autism and families want to be listened to and taken seriously • Want to have inclusive communities - including school communities, where people are welcome, safe and able to contribute • There is support available for people who are going through life changes – small and large

Governance Health and Wellbeing Board Future Care Programme Board Learning Disability / Autism Strategic Group Links to Transforming Care - NHS Parent / Carers Autism Group and User Voice Role of the Autism Group is to progress the action plan, identify gaps and approach, ensure it is wider than adults with a disability and also covers autistic children

Regional work • NHS England / Transforming Care team leading on regional work with a focus on: o Clear diagnostic pathways with timely access o Post diagnostic support is available o Competent staff team in place o Crisis support available (with access to mental health support) o Transition into adulthood o Education, employment and housing opportunities – fair and equitable

  12. Next Steps • Produce draft strategy - May 2020 • Develop Action Plan • Final version - Summer 2020 • Establish task and finish groups
