PRESENTATION GUIDE AND SAMPLE PRESENTATION Having a Girl Scout Proud – Family Giving presentation can be an effective, low cost, and low on time commitment way to raise funds for the campaign. It is a way to reach families and volunteers, talk about Girl Scouting, and give families and volunteers an opportunity to make a gift that is meaningful to them. Remember that you are asking families and volunteers to invest in a program that they are entrusting to help their girls learn to be a G.I.R.L. – Go-Getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, and Leader. This is an important time in girl’s lives to be involved in a program where they can prepare for their futures. When people make a gift to Girl Scouting, they are placing a value on their girls and what they are hoping for her future. Presentations can occur with a small group of families and volunteers based on troop locations or community. Or they can occur at an activity already occurring at the Service Unit where many families and volunteers are present. A presentation should be short – no more than 10 minutes. Collect pledges and gifts the same day/ evening. Utilize brochures and displays – limit to no more than 4-5 items. Emphasize monthly giving – it is easier to make a gift of $5, $10, $20 a month than sometimes one gift of $100+. What you will need: • Make your gift first for Girl Scout Proud – Family Giving • Pledge cards • Brochures • Pens (for people to use to fill out pledge cards) • Presentation outline (to help the presenter deliver the message) • Large envelope (to collect the pledge cards) • Calculator (to add up the gifts/ pledges to announce how much was raised)
PRESENTATION OUTLINE Introduction: I am so happy to be talking with all of you today. You are the people that are closest to the Girl Scout experience and have the opportunity to see how Girl Scouting changes lives. You witness girls growing to become go-getters, innovators, risk-takers and leaders as they work on their Journeys, participate in programs, go to camp, and do service projects. Impact of Girl Scouting: Did you know that girls who participate in Girl Scouting are more likely as adults to: expect to graduate from college, expect to have a great future, have better money management skills and participate in community service? More than half of the women in business today were Girl Scouts. 67% of our current female Senators were Girl Scouts. Four out of six of female Governors were Girl Scouts. We know that Girl Scouting works to build leaders. This is very important. You may have heard in the news or in community conversations that our country has a leadership crisis. While 44 percent of the overall labor force are women, only 25 percent of women have executive or senior level positions. And women hold only 20 percent of the board seats and only 6 percent of the CEOs are women. The more that girls can be engaged and supported in Girl Scouting, the more likely these statistics can change and we can be a part of solving the leadership crisis. Girl Scouting in Our Council: We know that we have something special here with the Girl Scout program and we want every girl in our community to have the opportunity to be a Girl Scout and to help end the leadership crisis. The cost to support a girl in Girl Scouts in our council is $300 a year. That cost includes keeping program fees affordable, subsidizing the cost to use camp facilities, make available service centers throughout the council with staff to provide support, training and materials to leaders and volunteers, and a program guide printed for every troop- filled with over 100 pages of exciting activities and events for our girls to participate in every year. In addition, financial assistance is available to help girls who cannot afford the membership fee and, program or camping costs. In fact one out of every four girls in the council receives some type of financial assistance. Assistance is given to girls in every service unit. In fact, the council spends over $300,000 a year on financial assistance. Ask: (Have pledge forms passed out if they haven’t been passed out already- don’t forget to pass out pens too!) I am asking you today to consider an investment in our girls. Your gift can help to end the leadership crisis. You can help to provide more programs and opportunities for your daughter and other girls who deserve the Girl Scout experience.
Please join me in making a tax-deductible gift to Girl Scouting. When you fill out your pledge form, consider a monthly gift of $10 or $20 a month. Your gift will help to provide more programming and allow more girls to participate in Girl Scouts. To show our appreciation for your gift, when you give at $50 you will receive a twill cap mailed to you that you can wear to show you are Girl Scout Proud. I am making an investment with my gift because I believe in our girls and believe that they have the ability to change our community and our world. I believe every girl matters and every gift matters. Take a couple minutes to fill out your form and I will be around to collect the forms and announce the total amount raised once all the gifts and pledges are tallied. After Collecting the Pledge Cards: (Sit away from others and total the amount pledged) I am pleased to announce that with the pledges and gifts raised today we have raised a total of $______ to invest in our girls! Thank you for believing in our girls and showing the every gift matters and every girl matters.
