• Group meeting to discuss becoming PLANNING “Monarch Heroes” • Expectations for: • Behavior • Research • Hard work • Advocacy • Toured campus to identify best locations. • Compiled list of native host & nectar plants. • Student groups submitted garden design ideas. • All of these were put to a vote in the Monarch Hero classrooms.

4/22/16 Earth Day! • This is one of Piney Point’s biggest celebration every year! • Each grade level takes charge of a different activity • 1 st grade was leading informational tours of our Monarch Hero habitats! • Plural! We renovated and replanted a habitat that had been destroyed when our Spark Park was installed
• Last year and this we integrated the Monarch Hero identity into every aspect of the students’ campus life. In addition to the large-scale Start video at 2.16 Monarch Hero projects they: • performed a Reader’s Theater they wrote based on their study of the Monarch Migration for Mini Reading Fair. • created a Mini Science Fair project related to the Monarch Life-Cycle • wore cereal box Monarch wings for their “graduation” ceremony • made the project the centerpiece of their iEarn Day In The Life video for their sister school in Taiwan. click image and advance video to 2.16
