  2. What We do ? We collect funds from individuals, corporations, associations, government programs and estates. We invest funds through the Winnipeg Foundation. We donate the revenues back to charities and groups in Pinawa (at least 3.5% of endowed funds each year). We support other activities through flow through funding and volunteers. Our First Goal – $1 M in Endowed Funds 86% of target on March 31,2020

  4. What We Do Not Do? Do not use professional fundraisers. Do not solicit by phone or door-to-door. Do not use any of your donation for administration costs. Do not donate to anyone outside of Pinawa. Do not sell or trade your name/address. Do not pay high management fees for investments (< 1%).

  5. 2019-2020 Highlights • Wonderful Response to the Pinawa Community Resource Guide published by the Foundation in the Fall of 2018. • Friends of the Ironwood Trail – $5,224 (Solo Greener Tomorrow Grant). • Pinawa Curling Club Slide Through 2020 - $4,300 directed donations so far. • Pinawa Secondary School Scholarships : Cynthia Wang, Gladys Guthrie Scholarship ($1,500); Halley Holmlund, Pinawa Foundation Scholarship ($1,000) • Community Project Month – Over $28,000 raised for local groups.

  6. 2019-2020 Highlights • Survivor’s Hope, Pinawa Public Library, Pinawa Art 211, Friends of Ironwood Trail, grassroots received grants from the Foundation totalling $4,817. • Parent Youth Group, grassroots, Lions, Pinawa Cancer Care, Survivor’s Hope - $1,580 directed donations • Pinawa Health Auxiliary - $2,338 directed donations. • Youth in Philanthropy Grants - $2,500 • Northern Stores Greener Living Grant - make our community a greener and more environmentally friendly; first grant to Friends of Ironwood Trail in May 2019. • The Christmas Hamper Committee received $5,755 directed donations.

Youth in Philanthropy Program • YIP gives students the opportunity to learn about philanthropy and helping their community by donating funds to local worthy projects. • Pinawa Foundation, in partnership with Thomas Sills Foundation, provides $2,500 each year to Pinawa Secondary School. • With the help of school staff and our Foundation volunteers, the students evaluate projects, donate the funds, and track the progress of each project. • Thank-you Carol Findlay and Lisa Krupka. • Grants will be named later in this event.

  11. Community Project Month - 2020 Donations made to the Pinawa Foundation in the month of May were stretched by 30% to a maximum of $1,500 per group. Pinawa Health Auxiliary – “Roller Blinds for Hospital Rooms”. Goal $2,500 Survivor’s Hope Crisis Inc. – “Improved Services for Eastern Manitoba”. Goal $5,000 Whiteshell XC Ski Club – “Trail Maintenance Equipment” Goal $2,000 Pinawa Curling Club – “Compressor Project”. Goal $40,000 Orville Acres Arena Board – “The Rubber Safety Matting Project”. Goal $5,000 Two Rivers Seniors – “Trishaw Bike Project” Goal $12,000 Pinawa Art 211 – “Art Instruction Equipment – Table Easels” Goal $1,000

  13. Pinawa Foundation – Focus on Our History • Keeper of historical photographs and display items. • Growing archive – some on display today. • Looking for advice on how best to display items. • Still in search for funds to finance historical displays.

  14. Pinawa History Walk • History Walk Displays have been designed and sent for manufacturing. • Fifteen displays will be installed around town over the summer months. • Thank-you to Shaun Thompson for your efforts.

  15. Foundation sold over 800 copies of history • books. • Raised over $11 K for endowment fund. • Continue to sell books through amazon.ca. LGD and Acsion.

Over the past 9 years • Raised $950 k for endowed funds, life insurance policies, inclusion in estate planning. • Given away over $400 k to local charities and groups. • Completed our “Drive to 500” Organ Donation Program. • Established our first memorial fund and scholarship named after a local resident. Created first three Endowment Funds for local service • groups – Library, Arts Groups and Health Auxiliary. • Received multiple donations from Generation #2. • Received our first donation of securities. • Received multiple estate donations.

  19. National Philanthropy Day Mid November every year. Has become big fundraiser for foundation Friendly competition between 55 rural community foundations in Manitoba Winnipeg Foundation and Province of MB each donate $20 for every $100 donated ($2,000 maximum each) 2014: Raised $15,000 – Third in MB 2015: Raised $36,000 – Second in MB 2016: Raised $105,000 - First in MB 2017: Raised $94,000 - First in MB 2018: Raised $73,000 – Third in MB 2019: Raised $94,000 – First in MB Has accounted for 40% of our endowment funds.
