iPad and iTunes Accounts
The Purpose of the iPads State of the art learning tools that will provide students with greater experiences than with books, computers and other materials Permit new learning experiences using 21 st century learning skills Teaching/learning tools and apps for specific content to help personalize the learning process
iPad Distribution Schedule iPad implementation during first three weeks Students must complete a three day instructional program with Integrated Digital Information Technology ( IDIT) teachers iPads will then be able to be taken home by the students Apps will not be pre-installed on iPads, students will download apps with IDIT. Teachers may continue to add apps throughout the year
Taking iPads Home Students must: Complete IDIT introductory session Participate in Technology/ Insurance Fee Program through PayForIt Electronically sign the Acceptable Use Policy Students can/will use iPads for homework through Schoology. Schoology is not device dependent
Apple ID for Marsh Creek Students DASD will be providing parents with an Apple ID for Students login name and password IDs will be disseminated to in a few weeks Apple ID for Students has special limitations including: “Limit Ad Tracking”, parental notifications, no credit card attached to account Students can use their Apple ID for Students on other Apple devices DASD does not recommend students or parents use a personal Apple ID Apple provides more information about these limitations in a document named Parent Guide -Apple ID for Students.
Monitoring of iPad and iTunes Account Parents will be notified of account and app changes Parents will be notified via the email address that is on file on DASD’s SMS eSchools Parent Portal This email address will be the address that is used for enrolling students in the Apple ID for Students program Parents – keep/use your email address!!!!! Passwords can be modified if necessary; parents should know the password Students (12 and under) can not purchase apps without parent permission, however, students can download free apps
Setting Restrictions • DASD sets restrictions • Air Drop, Messaging and Face Time turned off • App restrictions set for age 13 and under
Google Apps for Education Google Apps for Education is a collection of free online applications Provides teachers and students the opportunity to collaborate These applications do not reside on the computer itself, but are considered "cloud“ Utilizing Google Apps and Schoology will allow for teachers and students to learn and use 21 st century skills
Google Apps for Education at Marsh Creek Used to create content such as: Word Docs, Spreadsheets, Slide presentations Provides teachers and students the opportunity to collaborate Provides storage for student created documents and files Google Apps and Schoology communicate smoothly DASD will manage all student information, not Google
Student Privacy in Google DASD will provide students with their own Gmail account with a username and password Students will have access to Google Apps for Education All student information will be confidential and not accessible, by what is called a ‘walled - garden’ protecting students from those outside DASD All advertisements will be turned off for students using Google Apps for Education
Using Google Apps for School and Home Students will only have contact with fellow students and staff through Gmail Unlike Schoology, parents will not have a specific account Parents are encouraged to explore Google Apps with their children by logging in together Google Apps is Cloud based, therefore students will have access to their content from any device/location
Schoology Schoology is an LMS (Learning Management System) that Marsh Creek will be using STEM teachers have been using Schoology, replacing Moodle Schoology will be used for Homework, class assignments, calendar, work submission Usernames and passwords will be sent to parents during the first couple weeks of school Parents will only be able to see the content that has been posted by their child Let’s take a look at Schoology
Expectations of Google Apps and Schoology The expectations outlined in the Acceptable Use Policy is applicable to Google Apps for Education and Schoology accounts IDIT will review the appropriate and acceptable content/behavior with online accounts Students who misuse their accounts will be referred to administrators Parents will be notified if a student does not meet the expectations laid out in the AUP document

iPad Safety
iPad Damage All iPads will be in a sturdy case to prevent damage from a minor fall As with books, iPads that have been accidentally damaged (1x three years) By law, if a student purposely damages an iPad the parent may be responsible for full replacement Damaged iPads must be sent to the DASD IT department….DO NOT take to an Apple repair facility. Email DASD at servicedesk@dasd.org Report theft to school administrators and police Review contract
Web Content Protection All student iPads will be installed with iBoss, a web-filtering software iBoss will block inappropriate website at school or home Logging in first time from home – see Parent Tech Guide Marsh Creek iPads cannot access cellular networks
Appropriate iPad Usage Students will learn how to use the iPads appropriately at Marsh Creek through a combination of methods: DASD software restricts iPad access to inappropriate websites and prevents purchases Students sign and must observe the DASD Acceptable Use Policy Our teachers instruct students in Digital Citizenship: online safety, privacy, bullying prevention, and more Parents can and should monitor their child's online activities Parents will be emailed when attempts are made to change their child’s Apple ID for Students account, as parent emails are linked to the account.
