You will learn practical vocabulary for travel and every day living. Quick Summary – You will WORK ALONE to create a travel brochure of SIX (or more countries.) Use the countries from the Geography packet. o FOUR countries: must be non-Spanish-speaking. o TWO countries: must be Spanish-speaking. ONE of the two must be your assigned country. o Each brochure should be unique, i.e., no one should have the exact same countries. o Send your client all over the world. Try to get a country from different continents. You will act as a travel agent – where you SELL the vacation package. The end result is a dialogue between you and your client. The “ client ” will be your classmates who ask questions. o Everyone will get a copy of the questions. They are also on my web site. This is two test grades, the (1) brochure & (2) oral presentation – all in Spanish. The Product: El Folleto 1. Create ONE brochure – you determine the size. a. standard-sized poster (see examples in my room), any color. b. NOTHING electronic. c. 8 ½ x 11 brochure (Publisher has a template) d. NO foam boards or tri-folds. Page 1 2. Okay to use images off the Internet. Must be colorful and authentic.

You may TYPE your brochure information, but you must also turn in a hand- written draft of everything. 4. Notecards are OK. Must be written in English. 5. The brochure font should be EASY TO READ. a. Simple, bold, large (22 pt+) Part of your grade is the aesthetic/quality of your work. b. Keep it simple and attractive. c. Include ALL required points on the brochure. 6. You must sell this as a vacation package. a. The first rule of selling: know your target market. b. Your customers are wealthy, bored and ready for adventure. They have time and money. I. The Presentation ~ Prove your fluency! Sell a travel/vacation package. o be creative and humorous! o how do they get there/return/travel while there? (hot air balloon? scooter?) Speak in the formal register (usted.) Discuss 6 countries from the packet and/or list. o If you don’t see a country that you’d like to research, please ask. Approval a must! I will post both rubrics on my web site. Please look at them. II. What’s on the brochure? Your name(s) – in an upper or lower corner. Feel free to name your travel agency! Have fun and be creative! You will act as the travel agent and they as the traveler. b. Spanish only! c. Practice a natural delivery. Don ’ t read from your poster-brochure. We can read it ourselves but it ’ s up to you to make it interesting. Refer to the points. You should know your countries well from the research. 2. I will provide a list of questions that you are to answer and elaborate. There will be no surprises. a. 2-3 minutes. 3. Extra credit points awarded for business-casual attire on the day of your presentation. (about 5%...) a. no sneakers, leggings, jeans, flip-flops, t-shirts, Toms … b. wear what you’d wear to an interview. Notecards? 4. YES! But write them in English. 5. The Brochure is due on or before (-25% per day late, per my syllabus, for each part.) 6. Presentations begin D ATES MAY CHANGE DEPENDING ON THE TESTING CALENDAR . Page 4
