SUMMARY OF FINDINGS: On Monday October 24, 2016 the District started the public bidding process for the projects listed below. Eight (8) contractors submitted bids at the November 15, 2016 public bid opening. A Scope review meeting was held with by the District ’ s construction supervisor, Legat Architects, Amsco engineering and the lowest bidder to confirm their proposal on November 17, 2016. The bid tabulation forms were developed with the lowest responsible bid amounts. The total amount of all projects constructions costs in the base bid plus all alternates and professional fees came to $3,499,191. The total amount of all projects constructions costs in the base bid plus all alternates except alternate 5 (Visitor Bleachers/Baseball Field Improvements) and professional fees came to $3,202,461. The School Board approved a budget of $4,713,000 on Thursday, May 26, 2016. Scope of Work: 1. Replacement of Air Handlers: We will be in the seventh year of a 12-year plan for replacing and upgrading our aging and inefficient HVAC systems with more efficient systems. We have been able to reduce the number of air handling units and provide more comfortable and healthy working environments for the students and staff, by providing ventilation air, as well as the proven cost savings. This replacement plan includes air handlers AHU-F1, B2, B3, B4, B5, and the Heat Exchanger HX-A1 in the North Attic. The reconfigured MDF room will be getting new cooling units. Replacement of Sump and Ejector Pumps: This work replaces the old and failing sump and ejector pumps that are past their life expectancy, as well as their basins which are as old as the building itself. This replacement plan includes F1-SE,SP, A1-SE,SP C1-SE,SP C2-SE,SP. 3. Replace Electrical Feeder Wiring: This work is located in the original part of the building. Power feeding Load Center #5 will get new grounding. Distribution Panel #6 will be getting new feeders and breakers. Room 291 electric panel will be receiving new main feed conductors. 4. Window and Door Replacement: Office 125 will receive new windows replacing the original set from the 1890’s. The kitchen storage room 141F will receive a new door and frame replacing the current one that has rusted away from the wall. 5. Masonry Restoration: The west 4-story building elevation from the south corner to the north stopping at the 45-degree bay joint will receive restoration which involves grinding, tuck pointing, cleaning and re-sealing the exterior masonry of this building elevation. 6. Baseball Field Back Stop Replacement: The existing back stop structure is failing due to its age. During the 2-1/2 week bidding period prior to this date, a total of thirty-two (32) contractors became Bidders of Record and eight (8) submitted sealed bids. The bid opening was conducted by Ron Johnson, School District 200 and Rob Wroble, Legat Architects, and witnessed by nineteen (19) attendees. Refer to the attached Bid Tabulation and Attendance Record. Legat Architects has reviewed the qualifications and references of the apparent low bidder and have found no evidence which would disqualify Madison Construction Company from being awarded the contract for all work.
