Adoption Timeline • Request nominations/applications for adoption committee October • Present committee members to Board of Trustees for approval • Selection committee will review criteria for selection • Selection committee will receive training on new ELA TEKS (2019) • Review conforming publisher materials November • Publishers will receive NISD adoption guidelines • Campuses will receive materials for viewing January • Publisher presentations to committee • Committee members meet for TEKS review/narrow • Materials will be available for public viewing • Instructional technology will review material specifications • District committee vote February • Board presentation discussion and approval • Textbook reports are filed with Texas Education Agency and sent to district textbook clerk March Summer • TEA releases Instructional Materials Allotment budget to NISD • NISD places Instructional Materials order
New Year – New TEKS • The State Board of Education adopted new English & Spanish Language Arts Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) • K-8 was implemented during the 2019-2020 school year • 9-12 will be implemented 2020-2021 school year
Adoption Rubric Teachers will be trained on a rubric using components from the following categories. • Alignment to skills for student success • Standards alignment • Content • Differentiation opportunities • Assessment • Organization of text • Technology
