What is Moodle? Moodle is Capel Manor College’s online learning environment , as well as a portal to other online tools and to College information and news. Access to learning materials • Access to course PowerPoints, notes, • workbooks etc. on Office 365 via your Moodle course. Online learning activities, such as practice • quizzes, forums, flashcards etc. Online assignment submissions. • Progress tracking • Progress bars. • Gradebook. • e-Portfolio. • Communication • Messaging. • Access to College email on Office 365. • Forums and news announcements. • Access to handbooks, policies and procedures. •
What is Office 365? Outlook • E-mail • Calendar • OneDrive • Online viewing & creating of Word, • PowerPoint & Excel files. Online drive to store your files. • OneNote • Online notebook • Course groups • Course documents & materials are stored • on a O365 group site, accessible via your course’s Moodle site. (see “Course/Unit documents” links)
Logging in New students 1. Log in to a College computer. Username: your student ID number • (on your lanyard) Password: your date of birth as 8 digits (ddmmyyyy) • 2. Start up Internet Explorer. 3. Log in to Moodle using your account on Office 365: E-mail: s tudentIDnumber @student.capel.ac.uk • Password: the same as you used to log into the • computer. Returning students 1. Log in to a College computer: Username: your student ID number • Password: your last password. • Ask for a password reset if you can’t remember it. • 2. Log in to Moodle the same way as previously. 3. Using the Microsoft block on your Moodle Dashboard: a) “Connect to Office 365” b) “Office 365 connection settings” c) “Start using Office 365 to log in to Moodle”. d) Log in to Office 365.
Password changes You use the same password for College • computers, Moodle, Office 365 and any other IT tools at Capel. Capel IT Passwords can only be changed on a • College computer Log in to a College computer using your • current password. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del on the keyboard to select • “Change a password”. Type in your current password, then type in • your new password twice to confirm. Passwords need to be 8 characters or more. • Passwords expire every 90 days; make sure you • have changed your password before expiry to ensure access to online tools. If you have forgotten your password, come to • the library desk or ask any member of staff to change your password for you.
Dashboard The Dashboard is an overview of your course(s) and allows access to tools, such as your e-Portfolio, announcements and Office 365. Your Moodle Dashboard always comes up • straight after logging in to Moodle. You can get back to the Dashboard via “My • courses” in the top menu. Use the “Timeline” and “Courses” tab to switch • between your deadlines & events overview and your courses overview. Use the “Blocks” on the right to read • announcements, check your calendar, access your e-Portfolio and access your Office 365 tools (Microsoft). Please read through the User Tour on your Dashboard. Click “Reset User Tour on this page” at the bottom of the page if User Tour not visible.
Moodle front page Please now click on “Home” in the top menu to return to the Moodle homepage. On the homepage you can find: Report abuse: our contact form for the • Safeguarding team. Office 365: a direct link to Office 365. • Library: information about our libraries. • Calendar & Upcoming events: online deadlines, • events, term dates, bank holidays etc. Student life: updates on student events & offers. • Weather: current and upcoming weather. • View all courses: access all courses on Moodle. • Capel Manor news: updates, announcements • and news from the College to the students. Check this regularly to keep up to date.
Accessing courses To get your course on your Dashboard, you will need to look it up and “Enrol” yourself onto it. You will only need to do this the first time you access the course. Please complete the following steps: 1. Click on “View all courses” on the Moodle homepage. 2. Click on “Courses 2018 - 19”. 3. Find your course in your School’s category. 4. Click on the course’s tile. 5. C lick on “Enrol me”. Now you will be able to find your course on your Moodle Dashboard. You will have access to this course until the course finishes.
Course tools On your Moodle course site, you can find course materials, exercises and tools that your teachers have placed there for you. The course site will be updated throughout the • year, so check in regularly! You can access materials by clicking on the title • of each unit or by using the “This course” link in the top menu. You can access tools via the Cogs in the top • menu and via “Course blocks” on the right. Documents are placed on an Office 365 group • site, which can be accessed via the “Unit/Course/* documents” links at the the top of each section. Please read through the User Tour on your Course site. Click “Reset User Tour on this page” at the bottom of the page if User Tour not visible.
Student information Please go to “My courses > Student information” via the top menu. Student information is the site where you can find all information related to being a student at Capel: A digital copy of the student handbook. • Contact details for Capel Manor College. • Information about careers, applying for jobs • and further study, plus a jobs board. Information about our College centres. • Course representatives meeting notes. • Information & policies, including the code of • conduct, complaints policy and ALS policy. Information about our libraries, including an • online catalogue and help with study skills. PSC & NPTC courses and assessments. • Student services, including student activities, • counselling and learning support. Team Capel: volunteering at the College. • Transport matters: free minibus service for Enfield • students: book your seat online every week.
Apps & access Access Moodle from any internet enabled device by going to moodle.capel.ac.uk in any browser. Via the Microsoft block on Moodle Install up to 5 free copies of MS Office (Word, • Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook etc.) to your personal devices. Via Android Play Store, Apple Store or Microsoft Store on your mobile or tablet Download the Moodle app to receive • notifications and access activities on Moodle (Apple & Android only). Download the Microsoft Outlook app to access • your College e-mail and calendar. Download the Microsoft OneDrive app to save • and access files online. Download the Microsoft OneNote app to store • your notes online.
