Possible Questions to Ask: 1. What do you like about your coaching goal? 2. How has your coaching goal helped your teachers improve their instruction? 3. Rate your goal on a scale of 1-5 (5 being perfect) in the following areas: Specificity Measurable Strategies to support the goal attainment Realistic 4. What changes could you create that would make your goal stronger? 5. What problems came up while applying your strategies and tools? 6. Is there anything I can do to support your goal attainment? 7. When do you think you might accomplish this goal? What might your next coaching goal be?
Pre-Conference Hints 1. Make sure you both understand the “common language” (Ex: Reciprocal Teaching, Gradual Release of Responsibility, formative assessments, etc.). Ask questions until you fully understand. 2. The Focus/Goal sets limits and decreases surprises. 3. The Data you collect at the Classroom Visit will drive your feedback/post-conference. What type of data will you collect and why? What will it tell you?
BONUS: Always End Coaching with… • How did I do as a coach today? • Would you give me some feedback on my conferencing skills? • Was there anything that you wish I would have done differently? • What did I do that facilitated your thinking? **Builds trust, shows reciprocity, and develops skills of coach.
