College Credit Plus
College Credit Plus What is College Credit Plus? This is a state program in which students can earn dual credit. Courses count for both high school and college credit. Students can complete a degree in fewer terms and with greater flexibility. Open to grades 7-12. Students can take courses fall, spring, and summer semesters (new!). Available through public institutions and College-readiness required. Students can earn up to 30 college credit hours per academic year, including summer. No more than 120 college credit hours while in the program. College Credit Plus is free to students.
Additional Benefit to College Credit Plus Students can participate in any of the 14 Career Tech Programs offered through Lorain City Schools. All Career Tech Programs offer college credit New Next Year - Medical Assisting & STNA Hybrid Programs Students take courses through Career Tech and College Credit Plus Students have the opportunity to leave with industry credentials
College Credit Plus Rigor CCP teachers at Lorain High School are licensed to teach through the Ohio Department of Education and are considered Adjunct Professors through Lorain County Community College. The State requires that teachers have a master's degree in the discipline, or minimally a master's degree and a cohesive set of 18 semester hours of the discipline relevant graduate coursework.
Early College High School
Early College Overview Allows students beginning in ninth grade to participate in a combined high school and college experience Earn a high school diploma and an Associate of Arts degree on the campus of LCCC Students Served: o First generation college-going students entering the ninth grade o Students must pass the 7th grade reading and math Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA).
Student Enrollment Each year, Early College selects through a lottery, 60 students from Lorain City Schools and 20 open enrolled. Early College Financial Considerations • There is a cost of $682,737.04 for Lorain City Schools teachers at Early College Year Total Cost (includes 2 busses) FY11 $940,580 FY12 $1,177,938 FY13 $823,883 FY14 $880,655 FY15 $887,630 FY16 $864,192
Early College Cost Savings LCCC was able to adjust the cost of the program over the next 3 years as a result of a proposal by Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor John Carey The program is being restructured to the “co - requisite model” which has shown success in Tennessee This move has reduced the cost per pupil by 20%
Titan College
Titan College Partnership between Lorain High School and Lorain County Community College No restrictions on GPA, background, socio-economics, etc.: o Eligible students beginning as early as 7 th grade Earn High School Diploma and College Associate Degree of Arts or Science at the same time on campus at the New Lorain High School Tuition Free – Can decrease cost of education by half Take courses in Summer Students have access to high school extra-curricular activities and electives such as band, choir, orchestra, JROTC, CTE and athletics
