Longreach State High School Day starts at 9 am finishes at 3 pm. Access class (10 mins) and 4 lessons of 70 minutes each.
Longreach State High School Junior Secondary • Students in Years 7 to 9 study the core subjects of English, Maths, Science, History/Geography and Health & Physical Education. • Year 7 specialist subjects include French, Performing Arts & Food Technology (6 months each). • Year 8 Students study specialist subjects Industrial Technology & Design, Preforming Arts, Digital Technology, Art ( 6 months each) • Year 9 students study core subjects and select two (2) elective subjects of their choice for 12 months.
Longreach State High School Senior Secondary • Year 10 study English, Maths, Science, History/Geography as core subjects. Student undertake Certificate II in Workplace Practices. Students select two (2) elective subjects for 12 months. • Year 11 & 12 students select an English and Mathematics subject and up to four (4) elective subjects. • Students in Years 10 to 12 may participate in Certificate II in Rural Operations. • Students in Years 10 to 12 may participate in School – based Apprenticeships & Traineeships.

Behavioural Expectations • Strong focus on Positive Behaviour for Learning • Proactive not reactive i.e. weekly parades, behaviour lessons. • Student Support team e.g. Guidance Officer, Chaplain, School Based Nurse, Year Level Coordinators, Pathways Officer.

Behaviour Management Process Stage 1: Incidents dealt with in class or playground by supervising teacher. This may involve warnings, detentions, phone call to parent/carer, etc. Stage 2: Incidents dealt with by Head of Department: Student Services (Mr David Scutt). This may involve parent contact, monitoring cards, detentions, suspension for 1-5 days. Stage 3: Deputy Principal (Mrs Deanne Blackmore) individually case manages students who have be suspended for 5 days or longer. This process usually involves the development of a behavior support plan in conjunction with parent/carer. Consequences may include 5 to 10 day suspension. Stage 4: Principal. (Mr Brendan Krueger) Individual case management with students placed on a Discipline Improvement Plan. Consequences may include a 15 to day 20 suspension or exclusion from school.

Responsible Use of Technology Access of internet for school use only. Students damaging IT goods and resources will be required to pay repair costs. Inappropriate use will result in Behaviour Management practices i.e. loss of privileges, temporary or permanent bans and restrictions.
Mobile Phone Policy Mobile Phones, iPods not allowed at school. If required for emergency use or parent contact phones must be handed into office. Phones can be securely stored in administration office. Students can collect phones at end of day. Phones can be used before and after school. Phones/iPods used at school during school hours will be confiscated. Refusal to hand over phone may result in suspension. Lost, stolen or broken phones are students responsibility.

Protection of Valuables and Respect of Property • Valuables should be kept at home and money should be paid to the office at the beginning of the day. • Bikes, skateboards, scooters are stored in an bike racks. We request that students use a lock on their bike. As we encourage socially responsible behaviour, students are requested to respect the rights and property of others.
Resources Hire Scheme • Resources Hire Schemes are part of most State High Schools in Queensland. • They grew out of escalating textbook costs. • They are endorsed by P & C Associations. • The aim of the system is to contain costs and to maximise resources for students. • Payment of the fee may be made in one lump sum or in a series of negotiated payments. Payment to the School Cashier before the commencement of school is required. • All parents have a choice. • Resource Hire Scheme provides subject resources like textbooks, photocopying, printing, photocopying, internet access, science experiments etc.
Parent Contact Student Diaries: absences, teacher notes, Newsletters : electronic every 2 weeks, hard copies can be requested from office. FaceBook Page and Website School Noticeboard Parent Letters and SMS texts QParents App Report Cards : end of Term 1, Semester 1 and end of year. Parent teacher Interviews; Term 1 and Term 2 School encourages parents to contact school with concerns asap.
Absences & Parent Contact Absences checked every lesson and SMS texts sent daily. All ABSENCES are noted on reports. Parents are required to explain all student absences via a Note to the Access Teacher, response to text message or by telephoning the School Absence Line 0417 229 531. School attendance target of 90% for all students. Students with attendance below 90% may be ineligible for extra curricula activities, e.g. camps, sport, formals, etc.
