  2. What do we do? • Teach a traditional style of karate • Over 70 active students training every week • Another dozen students occasional training

  3. Links to the LJC Area • Over 70% of all students are from the LJC Area • Over 80% of students aged 12 or younger are from the LJC Area • Club training is held at the Mary Webb Sports Centre

  4. What makes it traditional? • Kihon, Kata, and Kumite • Regular training in Japan • Validation of techniques by Japanese Masters

  5. What outcomes? • Fun • Friendship • Achievement • Social skills • Confidence • Fitness • Control • Respect

  6. What have we done with the grants? • Mats • Scoreboard

  7. The mats are used: • training three hours every Monday • for club grading three times a year • for special courses twice a year • with other clubs for regional tournaments twice a year – in Hereford • with other clubs for senior training four times a year – rotating venues

  8. The scoreboard is used: • To prepare for competitions under tournament conditions • To train students to also undertake refereeing and table official duties • At Shushokan tournaments
