Lifetime Products EcoHousing Initiative February 2010
WHO IS LIFETIME? Lifetime Products, Inc. is a privately held company headquartered in Clearfield, Utah, employing over 1,100 people. Our 2.6 million square-foot manufacturing facility in Utah is vertically integrated, producing virtually every metal and plastic component used in our products. The world’s leading manufacturer of folding tables and chairs, Lifetime was founded in 1986 as the maker of portable basketball systems that revolutionized the industry with patented technology. Lifetime has continued to develop a variety of outdoor products including a durable deck box, glider bench, and a large assortment of sturdy picnic tables.
MANUFACTURING CAPABILITIES •Lifetime’s 2.6 -million square-foot manufacturing facility in Utah is vertically integrated, producing its own metal and plastic components. •Lifetime’s Metal’s Facility specializes in leveling, stamping, slitting coil, roll forming, and tubing. •Lifetime’s Plastic Facility specializes in blow molding, custom mold making, and injection molding. •Lifetime’s 1 -million square-foot manufacturing facilities in Xiamen, China house plastics and assembly plants.
ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY WASTE MINIMIZATION • Plastic scrap and refuse is cleansed, reground and put back into our system. Plastic from defective products returned to Lifetime is cleansed, reground and used again. • Streamlined packaging has allowed us to eliminate wax coating from our cardboard, making our boxes completely recyclable by most standards. Lifetime also eliminated the need for wooden pallets from most basketball systems with our Vertical Packaging process. • Lifetime recycles all foam waste and packaging materials that come from the parts and materials we purchase. We reuse the packaging boxes from raw materials for transportation of finished product. ENERGY MANAGEMENT • Rocky Mountain Power has paid incentives to Lifetime Products for energy efficient projects and presented a Certificate of Energy Resource Stewardship for Lifetime's dedication to energy efficiency. • Lifetime partnered with Rocky Mountain Power to explore ways to replace the aging equipment with a more energy-efficient system, developing a fully-automated, low-energy cooling system. • Lifetime also practices sound energy management in ways not seen by most. The lighting systems in all manufacturing buildings and finished product warehouse have been altered to sustain energy-efficient bulbs. • All forklifts have been switched from propane to natural gas. Building-to-building deliveries are carried out by the use of large modified "tricycles" instead of motorized carts. • Only necessary buildings are cooled or heated during extreme weather periods and all transformers are regulated to level the usage of power during peak times. PRODUCTS • High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is one of the most environmentally preferred plastics in the market. HDPE can be recycled over and over, does not create harmful emissions during its productions, and does not leak toxic chemicals into soil or water. Lifetime also manufactures durable goods that are designed to last so they won’t end up in landfills.
SUBSTANDARD HOUSING AROUND THE WORLD
LIFETIME HOUSING INITIATIVE Adequate housing continues to be a pressing social issue that threatens the livelihood of families worldwide; it offers safety, security, and an overall sense of well-being. Our goal is to establish Lifetime Products as a global shelter solution for both long-term housing and emergency shelter. Early in 2009, Lifetime Products joined forces with a Mexican firm to launch a line of eco-friendly, self-sustaining homes. EcoReaccion was formed to sell and distribute this innovative product to municipalities, government agencies, and corporate foundations. We are very excited to offer our product around the world. Blow-molded panels are lightweight and cost-efficient, and when combined eco-friendly electricity, waste management, and energy components, can make for a very durable small home that is completely independent of costly infrastructure.

MATERIALS USED HIGH-DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (HDPE) Our sheds are made of High- Density Polyethylene (HDPE). Lifetime’s HDPE is a proprietary mix that makes our buildings stronger and more durable. Our HDPE will not crack, chip or peel and includes UV Inhibitors which make the outdoor buildings resistant to heat and extended exposure to the harmful UV rays of the sun. • Lifetime’s HDPE is a proprietary mix that makes our outdoor storage buildings stronger, lighter and more durable than wood. • Polyethylene will not crack, chip, or peel and is formulated to withstand extended wear and tear and the harshest elements. • All roof, wall and floor panels are stain resistant and easy to clean. • Powder-coated Steel Frame: Rust-Resistant Powder Coated Steel Frame resists scratching, and adds protection against the elements. STEEL-REINFORCEMENT Steel-reinforced construction and heavy-duty steel roof trusses make the buildings structurally sound, so they won’t buckle during storms, or dent during everyday use. PROPRIETARY POWDER-COATING FORMULA Lifetime’s protective and decorative powder -coating is a proprietary formula that we have developed and painstakingly tested with abrasion, adhesion and environmental tests. It makes our exposed steel parts more resistant to chips, scratches, and regular wear-and- tear. It is a great all-weather finish. STURDY DOUBLE-WALL CONSTRUCTION The dual-wall construction improves rigidity and keeps the panel flat so there are no sags or soft spots. The special design and tighter tack-off pattern improves the overall strength of the panel while utilizing less material. The bond at the parting line (seam) in all of Lifetime’s HDPE parts is the result of proprietary process that makes the seam thicker than the rest of the wall, providing a stronger seal.
