(Essays can determine scholarship awards) ▪ After automatically admitting eligible Texas applicants each year, the university fills any remaining spaces in the freshman class through holistic review. ▪ Exception from Top 10% Rule: UT Austin – Class rank to be automatically admitted (current juniors/seniors): Top 6%

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION FAQ Do all schools require letters of recommendation? No! Letters of recommendation are often required by private schools along with a Secondary School Report. They might also be required or recommended by some public schools if you are under holistic review. When should I ask for Letters of Recommendation? ▪ Think about when you are applying to college! Early Action and Early Decision deadlines are in the early Fall of your Senior year. You might consider asking a teacher from your junior year to write your letter of recommendation for you. Who should you ask? ▪ Read each of your college applications carefully. Schools often ask for letters of recommendation from an academic teacher, sometimes in a specific subject, or a school counselor or both. Choose your recommenders carefully! **If you are requesting a letter of recommendation from your counselor, please provide us with a copy of this Recommendation Letter Questionnaire and a copy of your resume!**
OTHER TIPS ▪ Waive your right to view recommendation letters on your application forms. Admission officers will trust them more if you haven’t seen them. ▪ Give your references addressed and stamped envelopes for each college that requested a recommendation (unless it can be uploaded online). ▪ Make sure your references know the deadlines for each college and request your letter at least 10 business days in advance of your deadline! ▪ Write thank-you notes to your recommenders!
COLLEGE ADMISSIONS AND SOCIAL MEDIA SITES ▪ Rethink your email address. Is it professional? ▪ According to a 2018 Kaplan Test Prep Survey, 25% of admissions officers are checking applicants’ social media profiles. ▪ May of 2017, Harvard rescinded admissions offers to 10 students over obscene Facebook messages.

STANDARDIZED COLLEGE APPLICATIONS ▪ These are examples of college application services that provide standardized applications which allow you to apply to multiple schools with a single application. Instead of filling out eight different applications, you can simply fill out one and submit it to each college. ▪ The ApplyTexas Application is accepted by all Texas public universities and participating community and private colleges. ▪ The Common Application is a standardized application used by nearly 700 colleges. Each year, nearly a million students use the Common Application to submit over 4 million applications. ▪ The Coalition Application is accepted by more than 90 institutions. The platform includes “The Locker,” a private space for you to collect and organize materials throughout high school that you might want to share with colleges and universities. ▪ Be aware that you may need to submit additional or separate documents to some colleges. You also still need to pay individual application fees for each college.
