Local Electricity Discount Scheme (LEDS) LEDS has been developed in response to feedback from local communities and offers residential, community and business properties closest to a proposed RES wind farm a minimum discount of £100 per year off their electricity bills. At Jack’s Lane Wind Farm, the discount of £117 per year applies to more than 350 properties lying within 2,400 metres of each turbine location. The scheme is open to all residential, commercial and community buildings (including schools, places of worship and village halls) within the eligible area that have an electricity meter. Eligible properties will be contacted directly and invited to register their interest in the scheme. The discounts will be paid directly to the electricity supplier.
LEDS Continued... The catchment area for each RES LEDS scheme is calculated by taking a straight line distance - the Set Distance - from each wind turbine and identifying all the postcode geographic boundaries (as defined by Ordnance Survey) with properties on or within this Set Distance to form the Qualifying Area. In addition to LEDS we are offering a Community Benefit Fund of £30,000 per year which will support local groups and initiatives in the wider community. The total benefits package, including LEDS and the Community Fund at Jack’s Lane Wind Farm, will be equivalent to £75,000 per year – that is £1,875,000 over the lifetime of the wind farm. 11
Community Benefit Fund It will become available once the wind farm is fully operational. £30,000 per year (index linked) will be paid annually for the 25 year lifetime of the project. A Fund Panel will be made up of local people. RES will appoint a Fund Administrator to: • support the Fund Panel and finalise fund criteria • handle enquiries from applicants • process grant offers and payments
