National Context… ➢ The government commissions a substantial amount of training and support centrally, estimated at £40m per year in Greater Lincolnshire alone ➢ Government have also asked employers and individuals to take responsibility for their own training ➢ We are a small part of the picture so when we access funds for skills and training we use it to fill gaps ➢ We work with Department for Education to help them understand our challenges

Technical Skills…. ➢ Damien Hinds Technical Education speech December 2018 said that nationally employers are reporting difficulties finding the right skills, qualifications or experience for 42% of skilled trades vacancies. ➢ Our own research suggests that figure is even higher for Lincolnshire ➢ Apprenticeships and T Levels are an important part of 21/03/2019 the LEP strategy and will be working with Government to make sure that Lincolnshire does not miss out

Some Statistics…. ➢ Residents of South Kesteven are on average the highest qualified in Greater Lincolnshire, and a little below the national average ➢ A much larger proportion of residents here are employed in managerial, director and senior occupations when compared to the East Midlands and Great Britain ➢ Like Greater Lincolnshire as a whole, South Kesteven has 21/03/2019 a higher than national average rate of 18-24 youth unemployment

Investment… ➢ Over £13m of EU funded training and support programmes commissioned over the last few years ➢ Skills Advisor Programme, Skills Support to the Workforce and to Unemployed, Training people from industry to become trainers in College, Apprenticeship Support. These are ending now with new programmes starting 1 st April

Other… ➢ SAP Programme - all LEPs are required to produce a Skills Analysis as an evidence base for People section of Local Industrial Strategy ➢ Expected to be complete in July and will be used to develop a new Skills Strategy ➢ Additionally we have some sector Research that is to be published late Spring as a result of the Skills Advisor Programme
