Extra Curricular activities Mixed Tug-of-War against a neighbouring school for 5 th and 6 th class Taster classes for each pupil in different activities including yoga and tag rugby Mixed Tag Rugby Blitz for 5 th and 6 th class The school garden is maintained by the children in each class
Active Travel A visit from Garda Patrick and Snipe from the Garda Dog Handlers Unit, he discussed the importance of exercise with your pets at home We will complete the Cork Safer Cycling Programme run by Cork County Council in 2018 An active travel focus day, Walk to Work, will be organised with the school and parents for the children in June 2017 Bling Your Bike day June 2017
Working with Pupils Children surveyed to establish what clubs or activities they partake in outside of school Children are encouraged to share with others during break time what they have learned at these clubs or activities Suggestions box set up to encourage children to put forward their own ideas on what activities they would like to try, especially during Active School Week Set up a Well Done Wall
Working with Parents Parents involved in clubs or activities encouraged to come to the school to give demonstrations or coach the children Parents informed of clubs or activities in the community looking for new members Parents are also encouraged to take photos on the weekend of their children partaking in different physical activities, and to email them to the school for our website
Working with the Local Community Local GAA club invited to talk to the children about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle
Working with National Agencies Land PAWS Programme completed (Irish Water Safety) Road Safety Authority representative came to the school to talk to the children and distributed high viz vests to all Links on our school website to many National Agencies initiatives for example Get Ireland Active, Be Active ASAP, www.corksports.ie, Enable Ireland
