Home & School Presentation SHHS Library December 13, 2012 Ms. Sandra Liacouras SHHS Librarian
One of my goals for the 2012-13 school year is to make sure our students all have public library cards, so that they can take advantage of the wide variety of valuable resources available to them from the State and Delaware County Library System. You need a public library card to access these FREE resources from home. Instructions on how to access them are in the following slides.
Access these resources directly from the Delaware County Library System www.delcolibraries.org or from the Online Resources link on the SHHS Library Website.
From the SHHS Library Online Resources link, click on the link for the Delaware County Library System.
You can also download ebooks and audiobooks from this site. Click on Databases/POWER + to get to full list of resources
HOW TO LOG ON Select one of the resources. A log in screen will pop up. Type in the name on your library card and your barcode number. You only have to do this one time per session, so you can look at as many resources as you want without having to retype the log in information.
ONGOING LIBRARY ACTIVITIES PAINT BY NUMBER ART PROJECT PAINT BY NUMBER ART PROJECT LIBRARY ATTENDANCE Average over 100 students both before and after school each day – doing homework, meeting with friends, studying, and READING! COFFEEHOUSE Every other month students share their talents during the lunch block, bringing diverse groups together to enjoy the performances. Music, poetry, stand up comedy… all organized by students.
COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT This slide shows the age of our SHHS Library Collection by year. It is an ongoing process to make sure our collection meets the needs of a rigorous curriculum. I work diligently with colleagues to make sure our resources, both print and online, support the SHHS curriculum. Books that are worn, outdated, and not in support of the curriculum are withdrawn from the collection.
PLANS FOR THE FUTURE We hope to upgrade our automation system district-wide to Destiny, which offers many features in keeping with 21 st century learning. For example, with the new Destiny Quest mobile app, students can search and access library resources in a way like never before--from their iOS or Android mobile devices. Which means they can now find learning resources they need anytime, even after the school day ends.
