⚫ Georgetown ISD Course Catalog ⚫ The following presentation references the Middle School Georgetown ISD Middle School Course Course Catalog which is available online at Catalog www.georgetownisd.org
⚫ All 8 th grade students will take 4 subjects ⚫ ELAR, Math, Science & Social Studies ⚫ All 8 th grade students will take 3 electives ⚫ Possibly PE or Athletics Typical Middle ⚫ Possibly a Fine Art School Day for ⚫ Possibly a high school credit course an 8 th grader ⚫ Possibly another available elective ⚫ All 8 th grade students will have lunch
⚫ All 7 th graders will take PE/Athletics and two electives ⚫ All 8 th graders will take three electives (may include PE/Athletics) PE/Health & Every effort will be made to schedule students into first choice elective. Fine Arts However, class size limitations and other scheduling factors may require placement in a student’s second or third choice elective. Elective ⚫ Interventions are required for students who did not pass the STAAR and/or based upon documented reading or math levels. ⚫ Interventions may be provided during Advisory. ⚫ Parents will be notified regarding intervention measures for their child.
What is Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP)? ⚫ Academically advanced courses designed to challenge students ⚫ Designed to prepare students for high school level Pre-AP and AP courses ⚫ Courses offered in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies Are you ready for Pre-AP? ⚫ Level III Advanced Standard on previous year’s STAAR is recommended for preparedness Pre-AP ⚫ Teacher recommendation based on classroom work ethic, motivation, and average of 85 or better Courses How can you be successful in Pre-AP courses? ⚫ Stay Organized ⚫ Be Responsible ⚫ Be Self-motivated (Wanting to go the extra-mile in learning) ⚫ Develop Good Study-Skills ⚫ Take Pre-AP courses that are appropriate to your interests and academic strengths
Schedule change requests must be made in writing, with a parent signature, within five (5) days of the start of class. Requests may not be approved. Requests for schedule changes will be approved for the following reasons: Georgetown ⚫ Error in schedule (This will be confirmed by counselor and the course verification form. If the course verification form was not returned, this request ISD Secondary will be denied.) Schools ⚫ Student was unsuccessful in passing the prerequisite course ⚫ Change in program/level (athletics, band, choir, orchestra, etc.) Schedule ⚫ Level changes as recommended by teachers and counselor with parental Change knowledge and principal approval Guidelines More information regarding the Georgetown ISD Secondary Schools Schedule Change Guidelines are available in the Georgetown ISD Middle School Course Catalog. Students taking Pre-AP and/or high school credit courses while in middle school will abide the Pre-AP/AP Commitment and the guidelines for Petition for Pre-AP/AP Course Exit.
Petition for Pre-AP/AP Course Exit may be requested twice during the school year: within the 3 rd and 6 th week of the first nine-week grading period (to begin in an on-level course within the first nine-weeks); Georgetown ~ OR ~ ISD Petition for the first ten (10) school days of December (to begin in an on-level Pre-AP/AP course for the spring semester) Course Exit ⚫ Students who enroll in GT courses will be required to adhere to the Georgetown ISD Pre-AP/AP Course Commitment including the Petition for Pre-AP/AP Course Exi t.
