Federal Support for Regional Growth Strategies In 2018-19, the Government of Canada: • Launched four new programs to de delivered by Canada’s RDAs: o Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) o Steel and Aluminium Initiative (SAI) o Women Entrepreneurship Strategy (WES) o Canadian Experiences Fund (CEF) – Tourism 3
Prosperity and Growth Strategy for Northern Ontario All FedNor projects in fiscal 2018-19 were aligned with the focus of the PGSNO. This represented: • $72 million in authorized assistance • 149 projects In total, these investments leveraged $125.5 million in funding from other sources for projects benefiting our region. 4

Supporting Innovation – Regional Innovation Ecosystems Programming REGI – Regional Innovation Ecosystems Stream Funding to non-profit organizations to provide program and other supports to foster innovation, growth and competitiveness in entrepreneurs and businesses. Investments • Technology centres • Example: $1 million for Canadore College’s ICAMP • Regional Innovation Centres 6
Growing Companies – Scale-Up and Export Development Programming REGI – Business Scale-up and Productivity Stream Provides funding for businesses to accelerate their growth, expand and/or diversify their productivity and competitiveness, including the Accelerated Growth Service (AGS) Investments • PDAC – $690,000, 110 businesses • Royal Agricultural Winter Fair – $564,000, 50 businesses • The Bucket Shop (Timmins): $1 million • Crofters Food: $1.7 million for 5 projects • Legend Boats: $200,000 to adopt new technology 7
Growing Companies – Indigenous Business Growth Programming Provide support and services to encourage entrepreneurship and business development and growth in First Nations communities Investments • Support for the establishment of an Indigenous Centre of Excellence in Mining and Mineral Development with Waubetek CFDC • Funding for business projects: • MagnetawanFirst Nation for a new rock quarry • Z’gamok Entreprises Inc. for ore-haul business opportunity with Vale 8
Growing Companies – Women Entrepreneurship Programming Women Entrepreneurship Strategy (WES) / NODP • Women Entrepreneurship Fund – supports business activities that focus on market opportunities, expansion and growth. • WES Ecosystem Fund – supports non-profit organizations to address gaps and build capacity in the entrepreneurship ecosystem for women • Northern Ontario Development Program – supports initiatives that provide economic opportunities for women entrepreneurs. Investments • $950,000 to support 11 businesses owned or led by women • $3 million to PARO to continue to support women entrepreneurs in building productive, competitive and well-managed firms 9
Growing Companies – Bilingual Workforce Collaboration • Lead role in supporting and developing Official Language Minority Communities (OLMCs) in Northern Ontario • Ongoing collaboration with IRCC in promoting Francophone immigration programs Programming Economic Development Initiative (EDI) Investments • $1.3 million in 5 projects to support OLMC and francophone events • Place des Arts: $3 million from FedNor, $9.5 million from Heritage 10
Building Stronger Communities - Municipal and Indigenous Communities Programming Support to municipalities, First Nations and not-for-profit organizations to help them mobilize their resources, enhance business growth, and exploit new opportunities for economic development and diversification. Investments • $12.6 million for 15 initiatives designed to build regional competitiveness • $1 million to expand Kirkland Lake industrial park • $2.1 million for 8 projects to help communities implement economic development strategies (CIINO) 11
Building Stronger Communities – Talent Attraction / Retention Programming Support to communities attract and retain skilled workers Collaboration Worked closely with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on the new Northern and Rural Immigration Pilot Investments • $900,000 to support 24 internships • $2.6 million for software testing and training centre for Indigenous students (PLATO) • $50,000 to the NPI to match up employers and potential immigrants 12
Next Steps – Supporting Innovation • Regional Cluster Development o Mining o ICT/Digital o Agri-Food o Biotech • Continue to support stakeholders to grow the innovation ecosystem • Support to the private sector for the development and marketing of innovative products and services. 13

Next Steps – Building Stronger Communities • Continue to support new Minister of Rural Economic Development and the development of the federal Rural Economic Development Strategy • Ongoing collaboration with federal and provincial partners, including in the areas of rural broadband connectivity planning and implementation, the Ring of Fire and Indigenous Enterprise Growth • Support community readiness for immigration • Deliver the Canadian Experiences Fund in support of tourism initiatives • Continued support for Community Economic Development infrastructure 15 15
