Parental involvement in a child’s faith formation increases not only a child’s identification with their faith as they grow, but their commitment to the faith, and their practice of that faith as they reach adulthood

What W Will F Family F Faith th Formation Offer You a as a DRE, P Parent a and a Family? • It offers parents a chance to journey with and be supported by other parents and the parish community. • It gives families a shared faith language and shared faith experiences. • It also gives children the opportunity to see us “being Church

  6. Always r remem ember er….. • When we present anything new, it is important to remember that . words matter. Your words should be positive and should offer hope and support. • Affirm parents in what they are doing teaches the faith. Affirm the gifts that they have. • Challenge them to teach the faith more intentionally and assure them that the parish is going to journey alongside them in this effort.

  7. Components o of a Family PREP Opti tion • We use Our Sunday Visitor Program Alive in Christ. We chose this program because of the option of showing parents how to teach a lesson. This is how we organized the program. • We chose the 1 st Sunday of the month, except when it is a holiday. • Parents and children begin by attending an orientation in September. • We begin by attending our 9:00 Mass and then proceed over to school for formation. • Light refreshments are be served to help build community among the families

Monthly G Gatherings gs a and Follow-up • Each month, children will attend age appropriate classes with the catechist completing the 1 st chapter of the unit. • Parents will gather as a group to learn about the topic they will teach their children. • Families will then complete the remaining 2 chapters at home. The program we are using has an online component that will walk parents through teaching the material with their children. • Interactive games and activities to help the children with the content. • Once the unit is complete, the children complete an e-assessment which is sent to the DRE.
