MS101 Middle School 101 is designed to assist in student transition to middle school. Students learn : ✓ Digital Citizenship ✓ Organization ✓ Public Speaking ✓ Writing ...and many other transition topics. We want to take away fear and replace it with excitement!
ELECTIVE CLASSES Each student will have two exploratory classes each semester
Electives PE for one semester & Technology for one semester
Elective CLASSES Art for one semester & Music Studies for one semester IF you are NOT in Band or Orchestra
Band or Orchestra IF you are currently enrolled as a 5th grader NOTE: if you do not take Band or Orchestra you cannot be in Band/Orchestra in middle school
Academic Intervention Please note: if your state assessment test scores do NOT meet standards in math or reading, Tier Math or Tier Reading may replace Elective classes
An Average Day • Breakfast begins at 7:50 • Doors open at 7:50 • School begins at 8:15 • 15 minute homeroom class • Seven 50 minute classes • Lunch during 4 th period • 5 minute passing period between classes • School dismisses at 3:25, students must be picked up no later than 3:35 unless in an after school activity • Activity buses available to selected areas 4:50* and 5:50* • We do have Late Start Mondays

Middle School vs. Junior High School Your student will be placed on one of our two academic teams. Both teams are identical and have the same course offerings. This allows the team of 5 CORE teachers to meet daily and discuss student needs.
GRADES Letter grades are given Homework is graded and counts as a grade. 100-90%=A 89-80%=B 79-70%=C 69-60%=D 59 and below=F

Chromebooks • DNMS will check out student Chromebooks during the first week of school.
Chromebooks • Science, Math, Social Studies and Language Arts will be downloaded to the Chromebooks • Students can work offline at home and upload things when they return to campus. • Chromebook must be at school fully charged each day due to fully utilize the new online curriculum.
New BOE Policies On Monday, March 26th the Derby Board of Education approved policies allowing students to take ownership of their computers after 8th Grade if certain criteria are met. There are also approved methods for parents to buy insurance and a protective case. Flyers will be made availbale and will be online soon.
