Our conversion to an Academy Children’s Explanation
On October 1 st, The Meadows joined their family of schools, which means we are now an Academy. Who are The Shaw Education Trust? What is an Academy? Why have we made this decision?
Shaw Education Trust is a growing multi academy trust sponsored by Shaw Trust. They lead and manage academies from primary to secondary and both mainstream and special schools. “We believe that every child should have the opportunity to be successful whatever their starting point. We pledge an unswerving commitment to improve, accelerate and enable ambitious life goals amongst all young people in our academies.” What does this mean? The Meadows mission statement For all of our pupils to be successful: personally and academically
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mrs Morgan The people in charge of the Multi Academy Trust
They are a family of schools. The Meadows is now part of their family. There are 11 schools in their family, but they are expanding and want to have many more in the next few years. Madeley School, Wolstanton High School and Seabridge Primary school are nearby mainstream schools. Blackfriars and The Coppice are Special schools that are close to Madeley.
What is an academy? Academies are independent, state-funded schools, which receive their funding directly from central government, rather than through a local authority. This means we are no longer part of Staffordshire County Council. The day-to-day running of the Meadows is still with the head teacher/ principal, but it is overseen by The Shaw Education Trust. The trust and group of schools will provide advice, support, expertise and a direction to improve, so we can achieve the best outcomes possible for ALL ore children.
Why have the Governors made this decision? • We want to be part of a family of schools, so we can support and help one another. • We want to get advice and support from all the very talented and knowledgeable people who work for The Shaw Education Trust. • We want to improve links with the high school. We want our pupils to move with ease to their next chapter of education. • We want to be able to spend the money, that the government gives the school, more wisely. Being part of The Shaw Education Trust will bring lots of opportunities for the children and the staff that will be free. • We want to share all the good things that we do here at The Meadows. Our children achieve incredible outcomes and we want to share this with our new family. • Our motto: Learning by caring and sharing”. We will learn from one another, we will share the good things that we do and learn from other schools, who have super ideas. • The SET want us to be part of their family.
Some of the people who we will see here at our school……
Questions These are just some of the questions the children asked: 1. Will we change the name of our school? No 2. Are we changing our uniform? No because all our children look smart and there isn’t a reason to change. 3. Will other local primary schools be joining our school family? No because as they are Church schools they have different rules to follow. 4.Will we still have Mr Skellern teaching our PE lessons? Yes we will. ASM are providing high quality teaching which is funded by our Sports Premium funding. 5. Will we have different teachers? No, but we will be having visitors from our family of schools to help us improve and make things even better. 6. Will we have a Vice-Principal? No because our school is too small at the moment and we do not require such senior staff. I was so impressed with the children’s level of understanding and their reflection.
